RE: Chris Chris
Jayne, There's a lot involved here and what you are hearing is a plea to the Federal Government to step in and save the farmland in and around Mendota that has been cut off as part of a 15% reduction in water, to Northern California; and as a conservational effort to "save the salmon". What you aren't being told is that the "save the salmon" campaign is being subsidized by money from Japan.
As everything, it's all about money, not people. Mendota farmers are hurting terribly with NO WATER, and thousands of field workers have also been put out of jobs. It's awful, and very sad for these people. California government is subsidizing food giveaways to help these people. It has been reported that some of these people wait in food lines for up to 6 hrs. The food lines are run by volunteers. My question, and this may sound cold, but is why can't these people who aren't working, do the volunteering to help themselves? What I mean is, why do all the volunteers have to be more affluent people. The people receiving the food aren't working. It doesn't make sense that they can't help, but nowawdays, not much does make sense. Anyway, all of California has been called to conserve water. We are in our 3rd year (if I remember correctly) of drought. For more info, and all the correct facts, regulations, and news, google "California Drought". We still have much in productive farming going on in this State, so don't get the idea that this is an end to food production here. Let Go, and Let God...... |

RE: Chris Chris
CC, I have heard that all the water for California comes from Nevada, Is this true for the whole State?.

RE: Chris Chris
Tuffy, Sorry, I didn't see your post earlier. The answer is no. California is such a large state that we receive our water souces from many different water projects thruout the State, and also Colorado. It's very complicated. Here is a site to learn more, if you are interested. http://aquafornia.com/where-does-califor...-come-from

RE: Chris Chris
CC, That is very interesting, I guess I forgot my history as I should have said did most of California water come from the Colorado River, not Nevada. I have bookmarked that site have read some and want to learn more,,, Thank you.
I did learn that the Fresno Valley is one of the largest agricultrial areas in the USA If not the largest..... I also did not know that California is the largest dairy State. And I am a Cheeshead from Wisconsin. LOL Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain. |

RE: Chris Chris
I live a little south of Fresno but that is where all my medical appts. are. Fresno is what I call the "big city". It has everything and I really wish now we lived there to save all this going back and forth.
All I see on the way to and from Fresno are grapevines, dairy farms, and fruit trees. The population is over 90% hispanic, with a good majority of the hispanic population being immigrants who come here for field work. I love the area. We are dead center to Los Angeles and San Francisco. Close to Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. We have snow boarded and water skiied all in the same day as we are close to the mountains and close to the ocean and lakes. It has been a great place to raise kids. My only problem here now is the heat. It never bothered me before RSD but now I cannot tolerate it. Very mild winters. Thanks for the interest in the Central Valley. Take Care!
