It has been a long time since i posted anything, I will give very brief history and then ask my questions. Hubby had accident 11/03 bi-lateral calcaneous fractures. (heel bones) went on to have a subtalor fusion. (non-unions) our prev doctor never even told him of non-union. the present doctor did. Hubby just has second subtalor fusion 4/07 on left foot, still recovering. Just received letter from insurance they want him to have an ime done in august, not sure if he will be walking yet. any ideas why all of a sudden they are requesting this? also he is due to have surgery (fusion) on other foot in @4-6 months. He is definitely not done for a while. There is a possible mal-practice case with first doc for misdiagnoses as well as subjecting him to two unnecessary surgeries to remove bone, which insurance approved, and now find out the records stated "no impingment" doc said was going in to remove "an impingement". its a mess. what can he expect from ime, is it a physical type of exam, or just review records and check him out? any and all advise is appreciated. Thank you in advance and wishing all of you a painfree day.

RE: ?about IME
The Insurance uses the IME's also as their tool to monitor his process, and also as a Medical Opinion.

Not to hijack the thread, as it pertains to this post also...
IF you request the IME's credentials and either they don't provide them, or you find out that they are sending you to a doctor who specializes in cardiology but you are dealing with a foot injury, WHAT can you do? How can you or anyone be sure the doctor is qualified to provide the proper opinion if they aren't educated to do so? RE: ?about IME
As to the correct Doctor for the IME, is correct, and such information should be wrote down. I take my little Digital Camera with me, and snap a shot of their License, and I ask for their Business Card. What can you do if sent to a Doctor out of the scope of such injury, at such time, just take notes, and deal with it later. It would only then be to your benifit later. Say nothing do nothing.

RE: ?about IME
thank you all for your input. as always, the information is helpful and very much appreciated. you brought up a good point about the qualificatiions. the insurance company had my husband ruined by a podiatrist before finally getting him the proper ortho surgeon. (we picked the new doctor). Also, I will go with him. I'll keep you posted.
thank you all again. As always, I am wishing all of you pain-free days. |
