pennilayne Wrote:So, workmans comp could get their money back from the store and my daughter could also be entitled to a settlement? How long, in your opinion, would she have to do this? She should get a personal injury attorney right away--to handle her case. At the same time the attorney would be able to negotiate between the stores general liability provider & workman's compensation making your daughters life alot less stressful. |

RE: not too sure about all of this......
On Friday we did contact and attorney. We have to give them a call after she sees the surgon this week. It IS complicated, and I'm for anything to make her life less stressful. There's no fee unless the attorney collects money, so, what have we got to loose. This couldn't come at a worse time, especially with her classes starting this week. She already has to miss one for this appointment.

RE: not too sure about all of this......
Hi, I'm from Pa. and Disabled due to My Lower Back, and S1 Nerve Root Injuries. If both of Her S1 Nerve Roots are Impinged, they need to be Released, to Allow Healing, and the Surgery will do that, They will Probably Talk to You about a Microdiscectomy/Laminectomy, or Possibly a Fusion with Hardware. Just Please be Sure and get a Second Opinion Before Surgery, just to be Safe, a Lower Back Injury is Debilitating, I was 42 and in the Prime of My Life, and Cut down due to a Crushed Nerve Root that Encapsulated in Scar Tissue, and Remains Crushed for Life!! As far as Legal Issues, I'll Leave that to Others to give Their Opinion, but Please get a Second Opinion before any Surgery, She's much too Young to Spend Life with Chronic Back Pain, and Hopefully All will go Well, and She will be Fine!!

RE: not too sure about all of this......
I can't tell you how happy I am to have found this forum to talk about this! It sounds like all of you have had your share of difficulties! I certianly will be sure to get a second opinion. We live in Pittsburgh and we're lucky to have the Dr.'s and hospitals at our disposial that we do. Of course we dont realize that untill we need them. She is young to suffer like this and Im worried sick. Every day it seems like her pain is worse and her symptoms are changing. Your input is very much appriciated and I thank you very much. Ill let you know what happens this week.

RE: not too sure about all of this......
My Surgery was at St. Margaret's Hospital just North of Pittsburgh off of 79. Dr. Wecht, (I Believe is the Son of the Pathologist Cyril Wecht) I don't know too Much about, My Surgery was with a Different Group, and I had the Staff of UPMC look at My Films. Shadyside is a Good Hospital, and I've Heard Good things of Dr. Wecht although I have never Dealt Personally with Him. A Great Place for a Second Opinion would be UPMC Presby., they have One of the Top Neuro. Centers in the Country! Best of Luck!!

RE: not too sure about all of this......
Hi Pennilayne, I just read your post and I am so sorry for what happened to your daughter it is terrible. It is one thing when one of us parents are injured but when it is one of our kids that is a totally different story. No matter how old they are we still have a impossible time seeing them suffer. My heart goes out to you and your daughter. Last year was my daughters freshman year of college (over 2 hours away) she had a cyst rupture on her ovary and called me from the hospital crying. Even though she was almost 19 at the time, when I got the news all I could think was oh god please no not my baby girl. Needless to say I made that trip in record time shockingly enough without one ticket lol.
Please keep us updated on your daughter and if at all possible see if you can get her on here. I know she would get alot of support from the wonderful people here. I know I have

RE: not too sure about all of this......
I want to thank you all for your kindness and understanding. This has been a really hard couple of weeks. She just feels awful. She tries to lead her busy 21 year old life, but, this situation has been holding her back from so much. She's so frustrated! Today was her first day of classes, and it was really hard for her to get through the day. She's not sleeping well and can't focus. It's crazy how your life can change so quickly! I will try to get her on here soon. Maybe after this appointment. I think talking with all of you would be good medicine. It's nice to know that human kindness is still all around. You just need to open your eyes to find it!
