SON'S INJURIES
Hi, You may remember my son was injured by falling from a 2-story building and landing on his back. He was doing carpenter work. This was last Nov. He got w.c benefits through Dec. and then his w.c Dr. said he could go back to work. He was still in severe pain in back but mostly in his neck. They did all the tests, MRI, etc. and they showed no major damage, but there's definetely something wrong as he can't turn his neck eith er way anymore and is in constant pain. He does have a lawyer now but seems like nothings happening. He wants him to see a nuerologist in Jonesboro Ark. (this is a Ark. claim) which is 100 miles away and with no $ thats hard to do. This is a Dr. that is not a w.c. dr. My question is can he get his gas and expenses pd. for so he can go?? He's living off of 200 a wk. unemployment.
Another question is he can't do the work he used to do. Can he be retrained for other kind of work and will w.c. pay for this. He's 34 and would like to be trained for another job. All he wants is to quit hurting and for w.c. to do there job. He would like to see a chiropracter and for it to be pd. for. Any ideas?? My son doesnt have a pc, thats why l'm writing for him.

a concerned mom, Lois

RE: SON'S INJURIES
If it is his lawyer that wants him to go see this doctor the WC is not going to pay up front for his gas to see him. You said his doctor wanted him to go back to work. Did he? If the doctor released him and he didn't go back in they are going to cut off his benefits, and if he is drawing unemployment he is say he can work. Sounds like he still needs treatment for his injury but if WC has cut him off getting it started again is what your lawyer is for, but expect a fight from the employer. He needs to do what he can to receive treatment for his injury because if he doesn't he might be worse off. I know its hard to do sometimes but remember his health is very important but right now he is only a number to his employer. And they want to spend as little as possible on him

Yes he did go back to work and at first his boss was real nice to him and let him do light duty. ( they were working on a roof and he kept my son busy on the ground) its a contractor with just a few employeees. Then he started not using him at all. His boss ended up being a real jerk. My son could have gotten him into a lot of trouble with Osha and he didnt because he liked him. When he had his accident he was backing up on the 2nd floor carrying beams and the other guy was supposed to be watching where he walked. There was an opening that should have had a barrier across it. He fell through there 12 feet on his back and side. He has a son to support and wants to get full time work but doesnt think he can handle it because of the pain. Waiting on wc could be a long wait. He just doesnt know what to do. Do you know anything about wc paying for him to be retrained to learn a new trade??
Him and his lawyer met at the courthouse with wc lawyer. Not sure everything that happened except wc lawyer was grilling him about can you lift a gallon of milk., etc. My son said of course i can, l'm not disabled l just want get my neck fixed. His lawyer of course is never in for him to talk to. thanks for listening
