WC ordered neuro-psych exam, what can I expect
I am in CT. As related to my previous posts WC began contesting my claim when their neurosurgeon ordered cervical surgery. Now just before another informal hearing my attorney called protesting the cutoff of my benefits, they have ordered a 'neuro-psych' exam. Does anyone have experience with this or know what I can expect? Many thanks----

Has anyone actually experienced one of these? Internet research says it can take up to six hours or more... What are they trying to look for?

I too was ordered to have one of these done...... But was not from wc it was from the hospital and I denied it and did not have it done....

It all stems from my accident and the bad luck our family had months before...

You see my nephew (who I love and miss) died in a auto accident just 2 months before I got in mine. They felt I wanted to commit suicide and took a head on collision with a big hwy snowplow. By no means would I do that to my family and never would put that load on my son.............. I simply said to shove it where the sun dont shine....

I have had this eval done. Yes, it does take quite a while to complete. It is a bunch of questions and you mark the one you feel relates to you. I can't remember what the name of the test is but they use it in helping the doc to diagnose your condition. Alot of the questions seem like they are repeat questions. Actually some are but just asked in a different way. I did not see the doc the day I took the test but saw him after he evaluated my results. He diagnosed me with Severe depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I hope this helps but it is nothing to be worried about. Just answer the questions as best you can as to how they fit in with you or your circumstances. Take care and Good luck!

MJC.... I am with you. Mine was the same way. About 6 hours. Did alot of answering questions and alot of memory, hand/eye coordination , etc. I also have been dx with PTSD and Major Depressive Disorder. Alot of folks think they have PTSD but I always felt unless you are tested by a qualified professional and dx accordingly it is probably GAD that you suffer from. My test results were consistant with those with PTSD. There seems to be a groupd of things we can/cannot do that all sufferers are alike in. The eye/hand corrdination amazed me. I was beat at the end of it.

God is never late.

Hi Cap,
Good to see you again. Yep, I was totally exhausted after also. What is GAD? I am not familiar with that or those abbreviations for it? Hope you are doing well. I am still awaiting approval since Jan. for another back surgery. This is just getting ridiculous but oh well, what do you expect from WC.......lol. I will await your response as to what GAD is........thanks. God Bless!

RE: WC ordered neuro-psych exam, what can I expect
Hi MJC, I happened to see this so I will answer for CAP. GAD is "Generalized Anxiety Disorder".

Neuropsyche exams are given usually when there is a brain injury involved. The exam is conducted by a specialist psychologist in a quiet setting. You will be given many visual tests and memory tests; like counting backwards, naming different kinds of fruit, flashcards, etc.

The test is intended to measure your cognitive skills.

No, I have not had this test, but I have had the regular psyche testing. The first time it took 4 hrs., and the 2nd time, it took 6 hrs. There is a series of written exams to test your cognitive skills, verbal assesment, writing ability, math, puzzles. The final result is basically an IQ score. This score is used in conjuntion other tests given, and with your face to face interview to come up with a diagnosis. I think the name of the long written test is WAIS-R. You also have a test called the MMPI-2 which asks over 500 multiple choice questions like, Do you like working with a) flowers b)money c)people. I found this an annoying test as the questions were repeated in different ways, many times. You are to answer in terms of how you have felt in the past 20 days. Ugh! That's hard to do!

Basically, the neuro test is the same, except for the verbal testing; and maybe an MRI of your brain.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Just relax. There's no sense in trying to prepare for this test as you can't. You can practice puzzles or read read read to increase your vocabulary; but it probably won't make too much difference in your IQ score.

Let us know how it goes, and take care of yourself!

Let Go, and Let God......

RE: WC ordered neuro-psych exam, what can I expect
chrischris.......... Not that you put it that way maybe I should have not said no to it.? When I had my accident I took a bad hit to the head also slashing my fore head accross the front and behind the ears.
They thought I may have had brain damage cause I would not do simple demands like " thumbs up or squeezing fingers..." I had two hematomas (not sure if spelled right) in my head.. After the hematomas and swelling went down I started to react to demands.......

I also have complained of my head feels like I have a cap on most of the time........???? No clue for it gets ignored....

Sorry if it seems I imposed on this thread.....Bronco
