Are thier any paraplegic that settled their medical?
My name is jason I live in missouri were I was hurt on the job 8 years ago that left me paralezed from the chest down. The work comp. ins. wants to settle and close my medical out. Does anyone have experice in major medical settlements? They offer me the usually lose wages and the medicare setaside account. but on top of that is the non-medicare cost is what I'm confused about. they did a life care plan for me and came up with a figure that I am comforable about but the ins. company wants to space the money out over so many years. the final hearing date is Aug. 6th so I dont have alot of time to decide, i do have a lawyer but u can't always trust them either! So what do u do?

RE: Are thier any paraplegic that settled their medical?
If it was me I dont believe I would settle out medical........medicare doesnt pay all and you will have to have a medicare supplament as well as the 89 dollars(in OKla) you will pay for medicare... you will have to fight harder for medicare to pay than you do WC....My parents medicare supplament is 204 dollars a month plus the 89 plus the co pays and meds.....I do not have any idea the meds you use but they can get costly Moms oxygen is expensive as well as all the little things she needs to keep her lungs going......Do you have any idea what it costs for your medical each month? you also are gonna need wheel chairs replaced often as well as cars outfitted to take your chairs places.......Do you have a family or do you live alone? will you need 24 hour nurse care or just who takes care of this so many questions can you tell us what your day is like?.......
;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

The ins. company is required by medicare to put so much money in this account. I lived on my own for the last 4 years until the last couple months while I have been trying to settle. My parents added on too their house when I first got hurt mainly b/c the ins. comp. said I had a one time remodel. I don't require and nursing care just help with stupid stuff like picking up heavy object. I was a fulltime student at K.u. so most of my day revole around that but now its summer and I'm not going back to school until this settlement is over. Too stressful dealing with them both. |
