I feel bad for my friend

I feel bad for my friend
He works for the phone company and is getting ready to retire from there in Oct. He was hurt at work in December I think it was, After years of the repetitive work, his shoulder finally gave out. As I type this hes in surgery having his shoulder fixed.

What I feel bad about is, yesterday he had to wait for the call from the hospital telling him what time to be there. Well when they called, they gave him an early time, then the lady took it back and told him the note said since hes on comp he has to go last. Well, my friend isnt exactly young. And they still insisted that he have nothing to eat or drink after midnight even though his surgery wasnt til late this afternoon. The man has been getting up for work at 4am for g-d knows how many yrs, and today was no different. But to make him sit there and wait all day longing for a even a sip of liquid or a bite of a cracker just because hes on comp doesnt seem fair. I know I should be greatful that atleast hes getting taken care of. I am, believe me. But it pisses me off the way they are treating him. I told him what my surgeon told me that I could have black coffee, water, a cracker 6 hrs before surgery. He was scared to. Then I admitted to him what I did. (bad jill) I guzzled a 20 oz diet dew as I was leaving for the hospital the day of mine, and nothing bad happened. Not that I suggested he do this, but to show him that if 2 hrs after guzzling what I did, that he would be ok 6 hrs before hand.

I just had to vent, I felt bad for him.

Sad RE: I feel bad for my friend
It makes me sad that they treat those of us on comp as if we're second class citizens. Believe me....it gripes me to no end. I was lucky...it didn't matter who was paying when I had my surgery, I got mine bright and early in the day...be it good or bad!! LOL But, there is no reason whatsoever that he should have been made to wait just because of that. I would think their fees are guaranteed and that they are assured payment so therefore they'd take us first...no way will their benefit (payment) be changed, they already have an agreement with the company on the fee to be paid. Often times it's simply the way the schedule works out....other times, well, sorry to say, it's like it was for your friend. I know that when I was helping schedule surgery it was a first come first serve basis for timing of them. But that was then...this is now. Not everyone does things the same.
I hope your friend recovers nicely and doesn't have any problems with recovery or with WC hasseling him!!
I understand your anger, believe me!

RE: I feel bad for my friend
Thanks Punk- He got home a little bit ago. It was bad enough having him be last and not be able to eat drink or smoke all day, but yet the dr was 2 hrs behind!!

Hes home doing ok, he has the dead arm feeling. They gave him a pump like I had. So hopefully all will be well.

Thanks again punk for the well wishes. He appreciates them. (as do I)
