Tuffy, Thank You for that Info. Remember a while Back when My Brother was Very Ill, and almost Died? He had MRSA, and has a Great Dane as a House Pet, and had a lot of Scratches on Him from Playing with the Dog!! That could have Very Possibly been the Reason for His Illness!!

MRSA, as I had seen it on my oldest daughter, it was on her Butt cheek. It was lanced and treated and soon went away. What a mess, we had to be through in cleaning everything in the house, and all our cars too.

I don't understand how a hospital is suppose to be so clean, and you here people contact it there also. We still have the medication to wipe in our noses here too.

MRSA isn't anything to fool with, that I do know. When people think they might have a Boil, it could very well be MRSA and be checked out right away. As I have seen this, it does take on the appearance of a Boil at first.

John had MRSA last year in his foot. Make sure they culture it and give you the right results. It took two trips to the ER with John the first time they didn't give him the right medication and we had to go back three days later. It also takes three cultures after it is gone to make sure it is not dormate.

When I worked in dialysis we had a few patients that had contracted MRSA. That is nothing to mess with and very contaigous. We always had to double glove and take extra precautions when administering their dialysis treatments. I was always very very cautious with all my patients if they had this or not. Do you also know that if we had a patient that had AIDS we did not have the right to be informed. This just kills me because before you can work for them they have to know that you are free from all these diseases but yet we do not get informed. They claim it is because we are suppose to be using Universal Precautions for all patients. Yes, that is true but some people like myself would be taking extra precautions if I knew I was dealing with a patient with AIDS. Now our Hepatitis patients treatments had to be performed in an isolated room and we had to take extra precautions but AIDS patients could sit with the normal patients like it was nothing. How crazy is that? There are just some things I fail to understand when it comes to the medical field and how things are handled so differently. Geeezzzzz Louise, am I nuts for thinking this way or what?

Nope MJC, You are Right on the Mark!! You should have ALL Info. before You do any Work on a Patient, and Aids is as Serious as MRSA or Hepatitis!!

As a phlebotomist for 15 yrs. working in the ER and all different areas of the hospital I can truely relate to the being informed of a patient having HIV etc. But as they say it is patient confidentiality and the only way I would get signals from nurses that seen on their charts is they would hint to me to " double glove". That was the code that they were infected.

I did come across many patients that would be nice enough to tell me before I stuck them with a needle that they were HIV or hep. infected. I could not tell you how much respect I had for those patients that would be nice enough to disclose that information to me.

I also feel if you are working in the medical field and going to be around someone that has this you should be informed. But like MJC said, you are suppose to use universal precautions for ALL patients.

Personally the only needle stick I had I blame on being to cautious as I knew this patient was infected with aids and I fumbled with the needle because I was being overcautious. Maybe there would be more accidents from being overcautious because of knowing? Patients do have rights, but so do we as employees.

AMEN to that! This is exactely what I am talking about. The rights of patients but not the medical team that has to care for them. I agree with you regarding having respect for those patients that would share their info with you as their caretaker. You only have to love a patient like that. One of the strangest things like I said I could not understand in our clinic was the isolation of hepatitis patients and our right to know they were infected with this but not the AIDS patients. What the heck is the difference, they are both dangerous conditions. Also, these infected patients are sitting in a chair so close to other patients. If a dialyzer clots off and the tech is not paying attention that dialyzer line will explode right off the top of that dialyzer and there is blood splatter everywhere. How safe can that be for the other patients, they can't use Universal Precautions? To me, that makes no sense at all. Something is seriously wrong with that picture. This is one crazy world regarding the rights that people have and you know what.....it is only gonna get worse is what I believe. I did not realize you came from the medical field also.
