Loratab
I had carpal tunnel surgery last week and taking loratab for pain.
I try and hold off on taking the loratab towards the end of the day, 9:00 or 10:00 pm. Most the time I fall asleep after taking Loratab. Then I am wide awake about 2:00 in the morning and unable to go back to sleep, by 7:00 am I am exhausted. Some of my waking is due to being unconfortable, I keep my arm/hand elevated due to swelling 24/7 per doctor's orders. I am a grumpy person due to the lack of sleep. I am welcome to suggestions that may help improve my sleep. Bummer Knees |

RE: Loratab
Bummer,
I don't know about your sleep but if I were you I would do this for now. Since your surgery is so fresh I would take the Loratab as it is prescribed. For it to help you it has to get into your system good enough. Doctors have always said this is a patients downfall after surgery. We do not want to take the med until we really need it. Therefore our pain level is so high that the med cannot work like it needs to work and at times patients will complain that the med does not help them. As much as I know you hate taking it, same as myself, sometimes you need to . Right now, I think you need to take it as prescribed and then you can back yourself off of it in maybe about a week. You just had this surgery and you have to remember that. Take it easy and if the med makes you sleepy then good, it is working like it needs to so you are not in pain. This is just my opinion and I hope that it will help you in some way. Don't allow yourself to sit there and be in pain until you can't stand it. Take your meds for now. If you get sleepy then you will rest and that is what you need right now. Take care, God Bless and Love ya! RE: Loratab
While the onset of action for Lortab ( Vicodin ) is rapid the analgesic effect is gone within 4 hours so you waking is understandable. Unfortunately there is nothing to be done other than take another Lortab and go back to sleep. That's why it is dosed every fout hours as needed for pain.

RE: Loratab
Bummer, if you were to take your medication as prescribed, the sleeping thing will pass in a day or two, and you then can take your medication as they are meant to be taken. Any medication takes a couple of days for you to adjust. Being said, you just need to take them as prescribed, and in a day or two, you will have little problems with it.

RE: Loratab
You guys know me to well!!! Laughing!
The hard part of taking my meds daytime is making sure my children are cared for if I fall asleep. I live in the country with no neighboors close by. Okay maybe I am making excuses but my son has been having seizures, had one last week while having the EEG, and his teacher thinks he had one at school this morning. So I do feel the need to stay alert. |

RE: Loratab
it will make no difference if you skip the daytime meds, better actually as you are not getting the acetominophen to mess up your liver and kidneys
You might try cutting the pill in half during the day for pain as the impairment is dose related but there is no way getting around the short action at night. Take a nother pill and go back to sleep. That's what it's there for. |

RE: Loratab
Bummer, also as for the child, only for a short time, say a week or so, you need to remember your not the only Parent. Plus, you could tell the school to call the father, or ask someone to step up to the plate and be a care giver if needed only if called for a week or two.

RE: Loratab
Hubby travels and works 2 states so he's not always around.
I may call the CDDO and request attendant care for my son. I see the surgeon Wednesday, will see what he says about restrictions. |
