percocet in MO
A week after my ankle surgery, while I was still taking percocet on a regular basis to deal with the pain and before the staples came out, I was released back to work. Is that normal and realistic?

The accident was Saturday, the surgery was the next Tuesday and I was released back to work the Wednesday of the following week.

If You could give Us a Bit More Info., Someone May be able to Help. What was Your Injury, and the Surgery? Is Your Employer aware that if You Return to Work, it is going to be with You Under Medication for Pain? What has the Surgeon had to Say about You Returning? As You can See, there is a lot Involved in an Answer to Your Question, and You may want to get a Second Opinion before Returning to Work. Remember, even though the Economy is Bad, and Jobs are Hard to Find, Your Health is More Important than a Job, if you have the Monetary Means to have the Time to Heal Correctly. My Opinion Only, depending on the Injury and if it's Work Related, You should be getting Paid Monetary Benefits from Your Employers w/c Ins. Co., while You Heal. my daughter was on crutches for 3 weeks after her surgery and then a walking boot for 3 more weeks....she was back in class the following day but she wasnt driving and her instructers fixed it so she could keep her ankle up to stop the swelling......she was on little on no pain killers after the first week....but wasnt safe to drive till the boot came off......she didnt go to work at all during that time

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

Thank you for the good questions! I broke my ankle in three places: one totally through the fibula and two breaking off the lower end of the tibia. I have two pins holding the broken parts of the tibia back in place and a plate across the fibula's fracture. There is also a button and suture pulley stabilizer between both bones - an alternative to the pins they often put in place to keep the joint from separating. Seven staples on one side of my ankle and twelve on the other. The folks I work with were informed I was on percocet and loopy on it. The surgeon released me back to work "sitting only". I won't be able to put any weight on the ankle for a total of six weeks (three and a half more, now!).

That was over a week ago. I took the vacation I had scheduled, and actually feel ready to return to work now. The extra time gave me the chance to heal enough more that I don't have to take the percocet to sleep or move around anymore. I was really wondering what other people have experienced with similar injuries. How do we know what is "normal and reasonable" when it comes to WC? And how are our employers supposed to know?

Thanks! That's good to know. The doctor says I'll be off this totally for six weeks, and he's not saying how long it will take in the boot. I'll drive earlier than your daughter because it's my left ankle that's broken, but you've given me hope that I'll be walking again before the summer is over.

RE: percocet in MO
i had ankle surgery and was out of work 6 months. but my job is physical and was on feet 10 hrs a day. i think your employer should be informed of your medication and if they think you would be a liability they should tell you not to take it, but your dr is really the one to make the decision. what state are you in? if you are out more than a week you should get ttd payments from wc. gook luck and feel free to pm me if you have more specific ankle question.
