Darn it
the time has come the doc wants me to get some help in getting around....the falls are often and because of the cervical problems, canes and or walkers wont work for me....He has given me the choice between a scooter or wheelchair.....have you all any opinions? remember Bill will still have to get these things in and out the car... and can he with his elbows the way they are...is it a pipe dream to expect that medicare will also pay for a thingy to put this on the back of the car? any help from those of you that have gone before would help.....I dont have room or need it in the house only for when I go places with the kids and need to walk alot....or around the farm...

RE: Darn it
For You Sweetie, I would Suggest a Scooter. They are Much Lighter, and Break Down into Pieces, so Bill will have an Easier Time getting it into Your Vehicle! You can Submit along with Your Scooter for a Device for the Lifting of it into the Vehicle, just Make Sure the Dr. puts it on the Script!! I'm Sorry to Hear of the Change, I am there also, My Stability is Becoming an Issue, so I will have to Start Using My Chair More!! Best of Luck, and Please let Us know what You Decide On!! "Please Obey the Speed Limits, and No Drinking and Scootering!!!":P

RE: Darn it
Jayne, when I work at the New Car Dealership, I use to install the Lifts for the Electric Scooters. Most went right into the trunk. There is no lifting what so ever. Scooters also come available to fold certain ways to get and fit in even small trunks. Some lifts were electric off the car battery, and some had a crank handle on them.

RE: Darn it
Isn't it the "Scooter Store" that advertises "If medicare denies you, your scooter is free" ? I would suggest a scooter as well, especially if you are still able to stand and walk some. Does'nt Bronco or Hurt have a hopped-up golf cart!!!!!!!!!

Web link above shows the lifts I use to install in car trunks for you. I put the link up, to give you an idea. http://www.spinlife.com/ This web link shows scooters chairs and add on features you may need. Use for any idea or to help you search around. Me, I like heavy duty everything, and it has nothing to do with how much ones weight is neither. I feel the motors are much better, and the construction of the way it's built is much better. Jayne, I do have an idea for you. How about a used Golf Cart for around the house. Plus, I have seen many people take them camping also. And you look very normal in them also. http://shop.ebay.com/items/used%20golf%2...&MT_ID=340 http://www.ljpgolfcarts.com/wst_page2.html http://www.valleycarts.com/ElectricUnder3000.html http://www.beechcreekgolfcarts.com/specials.htm http://www.golfcartsplus.com/ Reply's are intended solely for informational purposes. RE: Darn it
jayne.... in terms of question about a scooter or a wheelchair, I believe along with the rest that a scooter is in your best interest. First a scooter is less invasive to society than a wheelchair, and two you do not have the issue of weight bearing only long distance walking. There fore a scooter would be best suited for you I believe. Also in terms of your car, check in to your champus/tri-care and see what they will do for you. Medicare B will buy in some instances if ordered by a doctor a scooter and will most likely buy the equipment needed to haul it.
I choose a power wheelchair, but would have preferred to have a scooter. I choose the chair over the scooter becasue of disease progression and weight bearing issues. As you know, Del has injuried his lower back and cervical regions. This being the case, I must consider how to maintain my independence which I could not do in the scooter. When I loose weight bearing capabilities, then I would have to transfer from a scooter to a chair to sit to eat, I would have to pick up a leg and put it into the scooter etc etc etc...with a chair, I am already ready to go without bothering Del or anyone else about transferring assistance. For you, this is not the case so a scooter would be my choice if I were you. Red Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. |
