Vicodin & Opium based medications

RE: Vicodin & Opium based medications
Well I have been on these " Short acting" drugs now for 2 yrs. for RSD and in constant pain even with them. I constantly pop pills every 4 hours and sick of it. I have been cutting back on them cause I feel I am getting very depressed with them and not wanting to do anything lately. After taking them for this much time now I find it getting harder and harder to want to get out and do anything with the family. The pain is getting worse and the meds seemed to help me in the beginning.

I have set an appointment with my primary care doctor as he is the one that now has taken over prescribing my medication as the PM doctors have now wanted to no longer just prescribe meds. anymore. I am going to ask for the Fentanyl patch as I have thought about this for awhile now. I am of course afraid to give up the medications I have now after being use to having pills available at hand, but feel if these are not working, why take them??? I need to do something different if I want to get out there and live again. It is a tough decision.

The pills I have like the posts have said, are pills that are given for short acting relief of pain after surgeries etc. I am going to be living with this pain for a long time. I cannot live with popping pills for a long time and do not care to go up and down in pain levels. I would rather have the pain hopefully be at a lower level throughout the day and not at different interveals. I hope this works out that my doctor accepts what I am looking to do. I have a good relationship with him and he seems to always listen to me. I think this will work for the best.
