No. that's not quite correct.
Morphine fentanyl methadone are also short term but can be long term depending on the formulation. THe difference between a short acting med and a long or sustained release med is simply the dosing interval. Any more than twice per day is short acting. Just look at the interval.

A Person Receives a Broken Leg, for a Short Period of Time they would be Given the Short Term Meds. and be taken Off of them within a Reasonable Length of Time, as the Leg will Heal.

And then there is Someone like Me, with a Crushed Nerve Root Encapsulated in Scar Tissue that will Never Heal, Scar Tissue and Severe Arthritis in the Lower Spine, Retrolethesis, and a Half of a Disc at L5 that is Herniated Again. There is More, but We'll just Use those Injuries for My Example. Vicodin and the Other Short-Term Meds. would be Like Candy to Me, and the Longer Term Meds. are the Best Choice for Me.

I Honestly Believe in the T.V. Show House, He has Pain, and did Over use and Abuse Vicodin, but I Believe that His Pain is as Much Emotional as it is Physical, because the Show has Him Losing His Wife over the Decision She Made for His Care, and His General Attitude Sucks, so He seems Like a Perfect Candidate for Exactly what Happened, Abuse and Addiction.
