Question for Limbo - Please
Limbo, I am starting a new thread so that I don't take over Caps.
I went through surgery in May and ever since the surgery I have noticed the same thing you described in Caps thread. You said, "so every time I step, I pull on that nerve. As the day wears on the Nerve inflames from being constantly tugged." I was hoping you would not mind telling me if this is something you felt right after surgery. I can feel the pull from my hip all the way down to my toes. I describe it as it feels like someone is trying to pull the nerve out of my leg and my ankle hurts so bad. I am noticing now a burning sensation around my tailbone. Is this something you deal with? Thanks, Deb |

RE: Question for Limbo - Please
Hi Deb! After surgery I went through the normal pain associated with recovery, and then for about three months things were going along pretty well!! PT was going well, I started walking on the Bike/walking trail we have along the river, and actually had myself up to 3 miles per day after about two and a half Months! then gradually It started: the pain started coming slowly and more often, I found myself struggling in PT, and my distance at the walking trail drastically reduced. That's when I fought for a second MRI from my surgeon, because I could feel myself going down hill. I wasn't one to set back and only do PT, I wanted back to work A.S.A.P and I pushed myself to the limit. So to answer your question No, it wasn't felt very soon after surgery, it took a while. I would get back to my Dr, if I were you, did you have a Microdiscectomy/Laminectomy as I did? If so I wouldn't think what you are feeling is normal. Sometimes as they originally told me when I started to complain about the pulling pain is that sometimes they don't get all of the disc out during the surgery and it may be impinging the nerve. I think they called it residue or something to that effect. An MRI with/without Contrast found my scar tissue issue, and you may want to discuss that with your Dr. I sure hope this has helped you, and please ask me any other questions you may have!!

RE: Question for Limbo - Please
Thanks Limbo this does help me. I only had the microdisectomy. I have had two episodes now where I have lost control of my left leg and could not move it. The last episode is when I went back to work. On the 3rd day when I got up that morning my leg would not move. I did get control back and called the neurosurgeon and he took me back off of work. That was 17 days ago and I haven't had that kind of problem since then. The pulling sensation only happens when I walk and at the end of the day when I lay down there is a pain that is hard to describe but it is so painful that I cannot find a comfortable position to put my leg so that I can rest. On this type of day I have to take 2 of the Lyrica pills just so I can get some sleep. I hate taking medication so I won't take that extra pill unless I just can't stand it anymore. I have found that lying on the sofa helps. I can push my back up against the back of the sofa and that helps some. I have an appointment on the 3rd with the neurosurgeon and I will see what he says about all of this.
Thanks again Limbo. Deb |
