injured acl at work
hello all, i have a quick question. i injured my knee at work, tearing my acl and meniscus. i am a mechanic and twisted my knee the wrong way getting a tire off the high rack. so they fixed my knee, and have been taking relativly good care of me, and i will be returning to work soon. at my last trip to the surgeon, i pointed out an uncomfortable bump on my bone just below my knee. i asked him what it was and he said it was the head of the plastic screw, "something to remember him by". so now i'm stuck with this uncomfortable plastic screw poking out of my tibia for the rest of my life. am i entitled to damages or anything? am i going to get shafted here and have to deal with this forever? what should i do?

RE: injured acl at work
well if its just one little screw what do you think its worth?I got more than that and they are not plastic....many on here do....WC doesnt pay for pain and suffering or they would owe some of us the earth...all they pay is your doc bills ,your hospital bills ,your med bills a a % of your salary...and if they cant get you back to 100% you will get a bit of a settlement based on your future loss of earnings......if you have a job to go back to and they let you come back you are better off than 99% of us here....I had to do a comp and release which means they payed me compensation and released me from my job......

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

RE: injured acl at work
Just be happy you have a job to go back to. I injured my knee 4/3/06 and have had 5 surgeries on the same knee. I need a 6th. My employeer refuses to pay even after taking care of me for weeks leading up to the first surgery date. Now the employeer left the country after I was there for over 18 years. So even if I ever do heal I have no job to go back to. So feel fortunate. I would trade you places right now!

Injured worker, & tired of it all! I'm too old for games!!

RE: injured acl at work
Well some people do get paid for scars and disfigurement from accidents and surgeries due to injuries on the job or other cases. I would check into that if it is very noticeable and it bothers you that much.

To some people it may mean nothing but to others it could be a big deal when you have something on your body that is now permanent. So the doctor said this screw is permanent? I thought they use titanium screws. I did not know they use plastic. I had a screw through my ankle about 25 yrs. ago and had it removed and kept it. How big is this area that sticks out, and will it cause you to bump it and is it very noticeable?

carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD.
1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10%
