Well, Tuffy said that everyone had been worried....I just didn't think to this magnitude!! LOL Yep, I was having modem problems about the time I felt I could come explain and update you all myself....timing, isn't it wonderful?? Got it fixed though and I'm up and running...thankfully, it was driving me absolutely nuts...on top of everything that had been going on!! Crazy world we live in, let me tell ya!
Anyway...it all started at my last visit to the Dr. for a follow up on pain management!! LOL He decided he'd start digging a little futher into my chart and see what he could learn...that's ok..I've worked with him and he is my PCP's collegue afterall! So, he notices a few things and started talking about him...I think I'll tell him to stop digging in my chart!! LOL No, I won't do that...I'll just have him take it one thing at a time after this mess is taken care of...if it can be in short order! He noticed that I turned 40 in March...no big deal...I'm dealing with it and he will to in a little bit. He's not that much younger than I am afterall!! Anyway, he decides that I need to have some labs done since it had been awhile since any had been done, I think in '04 when I had my galbladder out!! LOL So, he orders the standard labs that would need to be done on someone with my family hx. No problem, I say. Labs....piece of cake. Well, the labs came back pretty crappy. My triglycerides were out of sight. So, he's got me on some fish oil and will re-check in 3 mos. That isn't really my problem though!! I know, I shouldn't take it lightly...it is serious stuff, but trust me...it's the least of my worries right now.
In addition to the labs he wanted me to get a mammogram. No problem I say...been there, did that about 11 years ago so that my mother would get one when she needed one!! LOL It was one of those things that I said, "If I get one, will you?" Of course, I did and she didn't for about 8-9 months!! LOL Anyway....off track..sorry guys! I went, didn't think it would be any big deal since I do the monthly self exams and hubby keeps a very careful eye on them himself. He'd notice before I would, believe me!! Or so I thought...!! My mammogram came back with a spot of concern on the Right side. So, the radiologist suggested a "compression view" mammogram on the right. Well, now, I'm thinking several things....LOL Number one, didn't they already compress that baby enough?? How can they compress it further? And, Number two, what the hell could be wrong??? No family hx of it or anything. I've always been relatively healthy...except for few incidents in my lifetime!! LOL So, I get the "compression view" mammogram, hoping that it was just the view of the first one and it wasn't a good view. Well, the 'spot' is still there. I've looked at my first films and it looks like the typical area that you see in the breast cancer awareness pamphlets. Didn't look good. As a nurse, we've seen many films with malignant tumors/masses and they definitely have a certain characteristic about them. Typically, a malignant mass/tumor will not be smooth around the edges, and will more often than not have 'fingers' or 'legs' coming from them. Mine had three little legs, kinda like a 3 legged bug!! So, to speak. Anyway, that area was still there on the compression view. The radiologist and the tech, who is specially trained in mammo's and exams, both were able to palpate this area...they showed me so I'd know for myself. The radiologist suggests that I have another in 6 months and see if there are any changes...bigger/smaller, density, all of that. I have to wonder if that is such a good idea or not. The Dr. who did the ordering of these was out of town this week. My PCP knew about it and checked my lab values and also the report from the compression view. He suggested I see the Dr. next week. Well, in the midst of baseball and some things I had to get done for the settlement phase I haven't made that appointment. I will though on Monday, I promise!!! I'm going to discuss whether or not it's a good idea to wait for that long in the event it's not friendly and/or the suggestion, as made by Tuffy and various others, to go for a second opinion in a bigger city where there are specialists. Hubby is inclined to believe the same as Tuffy and Mom, so I'll probably do it...even if the Dr. thinks I'll be ok without doing that.
So, that's my story....not pretty. But, unfortunately it's mine!!! LOL
On the brighter side, the lawyer for the other side told my lawyer that he would give me an advancement within 10 days of some of my settlement. He did. I got it today. Luckily, my lawyer was nice and decided to wait to take his fees out until the big check comes in about 5-8 weeks (or however long it takes)!! So, I got the full amount!! That helps BIG TIME!!
Like some people say, "When it rains, it pours!!" I guess it does. Although, it could have happened during my mess with WC, so that's a good thing...I guess!!! Thank you everyone. I promise I'll let you know how it goes when I see the Dr. either this week or next!! Scout's Honor!!!
Until then, keep those prayers coming....I do feel them guys!! You have no idea how helpful it is to know that there are other people pulling for you!!!
God Bless all of you!! I pray for you all also....hoping that your pain levels are all down and you are not struggling to hard with the wiley ways of WC!!!

Good to hear from you Punk!! How's your white blood cell count? I recently had labs and my Testosterone level is about 140 below normal low and they checked my Prostate for Cancer which was clear, but they weren't too worried because my white blood cell count was good! As a RN you know better than I when they're high, your Body is usually fighting something. I'm sure glad things are a little better and it's good to hear from You!! Wink

Punk, six months my butt!  I just cannot believe your Radiologist did not order a biopsy right then and there!  What is wrong with him?  You need to know if that growth is benign or cancerous...such is nothing to be taken lightly.  Waiting six months is taking the matter lightly, to say the very least.  The earlier the test, the better for a successful cure if needed.  Take no chances, regardless of what time statistics studies say.  God!  My mother died when I was a boy.  She was 33 years old.  The nice doctor overlooked cancer because she was "too young" for what she suspected.  Very sadly, she found out too late that her suspicions were correct.

Please forgive me for being so blunt, but I wouldn't go for a second opinion...I'd demand the biopsy right away.  My prayers are always for you.

I think I agree with Wink. If it were me I would not let them wait. Demand that the doc get you that biopsy. It just doesn't make sense that they would want to wait six months. Just my opinion.

Punk welcome back - we sure have missed you.

Deb
