RE: wc ends/no job/what do i do?
Your Friend Definitely needs a Lawyer that Works in the w/c Arena on Her Side right now! If the Report comes Back Against Her, the Attorney can File a Petition to Review Medical Evidence, get Your Friend a Second Opinion, and then the Judge Decides which Dr. they Find More Credible! She also Must get Her paper Work for SSDI Going, I was Approved in 3mos./3wks. without an Attorney, and I did as Jayne Said, I made an Appt. and went to My Local SS Office and did it Face to Face, Minus the Puke!!
I was Approved at the Age of 43, and 95% that Apply in that Age Range are Usually Turned Down the First Time! She is going to have to get Proactive and Prepared, not just setting and Waiting for the Worse, which May Very Well Happen if they know She is not Represented by an Attorney! Attorney's that Deal with w/c Usually Work on a Contingency Basis, meaning they Only get Paid if they Win, and it's only a % of Her Weekly w/c Payments, or any Lump Sum Monies She May get. I am on Both w/c and SSDI, One Offsets the Other, but the Best thing about SSDI is after a Year, I Believe from Her Injury Date She is Eligible for Medicare, and they will Pay for Treatment if w/c Denies Her, and if She Wins in Court, SSDI gets Paid Back! So there is a Lot She can do, and I Suggest She Starts Soon, before the Other Foot Drops, and She's not Ready!! Best of Luck, I Wish Her Well!!

RE: wc ends/no job/what do i do?
I agree with others, she needs to apply for ssdi asap. I waited a whole year applying after I lost my job because I was still getting time loss and I believed, I can be re-trained and go back to work. It is not the case, finally I applied for ssdi in July 2007, but was turned down twice. Now in my third try, I waited more than a year for the hearing and still an other year to go. In the meantime, I may loose my w/c check soon so I will be without any income. Even though I was approved for unempoyment since 2006, can't really collect because I would loose my waiting time for ssdi.
I am also single, so there is really no help for us out there, except maybe food stamp. Your friend needs to get prepared for a long wait and plan to survive somehow. What I did, I moved to this camping club and live in a trailer, so my living cost is about the third what it used to be. It is not very compfortable, but not too bad and certainly, it is very safe and peaceful in here. Your friend might need to move in with family or get roommates, or she can try to find maybe a companion position with free room/board in exchange. The key is to be prepared as much as possible while there is still time Kat |
