after 8 months of dental work
After 8 month of dental work (root canal and 7 rounds of antibotics) I will have to have extraction done on # 7th and 8th (these are in front ) I will be left with the choice of getting a partial plate. If there is a settlement will this be considered disfigurement.I live in Louisiana and this was a result from a slip and fall accident.

RE: after 8 months of dental work
if they covered the bills and there is no disabilty there will most likely be no settlement unless there are scars on the outside of your face they may give you a little bit for that..... my scar was hid in a fold of my neck so they didnt pay for it.....remember those plates must be replaced every so often and the wires from them will cause other teeth to decay easier if you are not careful be sure you take that in consideration......I would ask for a dental implant instead as a wearer of a partial they are easily broken the wires are very easy to bend and break.... have you a lawyer? please speak to one if not as a consult is normally free....be prepared if they see no money in your case they will tell you so up front.....because if you dont make money neither do they......and if they wont work on a persentage basis you dont want them.....

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

RE: after 8 months of dental work
I don't believe the use of apparatus/appliances which i would consider a dental plate (like braces and hardware) would be considered disfigurement.
you'd have to show that it was not a functional impairment covered by the impairment guides yet produced an impediment to your ability to earn a living or become employed.
Of course any determination under the state comp rules can be reviewed by the comp court.
For example: vision problems correctable by glasses are considered as a ratable physical impairment rather then a cosmetic disfigurement.

RE: after 8 months of dental work
I would think there would be a settlement for something like that. I would think it would be rated because it is a loss of something on your body, or in your body, and I would also compare it to like hearing loss maybe and having to wear a hearing aid??? Just a guess.

Also like Jayne said about partials and having to replace them, you would want WC to pay say every 5 yrs. ( I know you do this for dentures) for a replacement. I also think implants is the way to go. I was looking into that procedure myself not to long ago. It is not cheap but you would not need replace them every so many years. I would doubt WC would pay for it as it may be considered cosmetic.

carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD.
1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10%
