Sorry to hear about your pain... I was on vicodin for almost a year and was amuned to it it just didnt work anymore. Now all drugs affect everyone differently, what makes me drowsy might not you. But I was on oxycotton and oxycodone one is a rapid release tab and the other was not and niether one made me drowsy and worked very well. But very addicting as with many narcotics... Im sure someone else will be along to help you out more....................Good Luck.

RE: can the mild herniation get worsr not working?
Desiccation is an excessive loss of moisture; the process of drying up of the Disc. The fluids it the Disc are drying up is what that means. When this happens, the Vertabre's then come closer & closer together. Bulging or Herniated Disc can get worse, I heard some say they got better, but not many that did get better.

Vicodin as far as I can always remember, will only work short periods of time. This is why it is well used by most Dentist. After a short period of time the body becomes use to it. And it just doesn't seem to work for pain. Only a different selection of medication with the help of your doctor would be the best choice.

RE: can the mild herniation get worsr not working?
Grand,

I also go to PM and have had my medication adjusted many times. I started off 2 yrs. ago with my injury on Vicodin and found it did not work after awhile also. I was asked from my pm doctor what worked well for my pain level after surgery. I told her Percocet. She then switched my medication over to percocet 3 to 4 times a day. My pains got worse and like all medications you get use to them. My doctor then suggested that I try methadone and use the percocet for break through pain. Methadone ( time release) was the best pain reliever I had ever prescribed for me but I ended up with a rash after being on it a few days.

I was taken off of it and asked to try Oxycontin. I take 2 ( 40 ) mg's. a day and have 3 to 4 percocets a day if needed. This has worked very well for me. I find that the oxycontin works only for about 6-8 hours of pain relief ( not 100%) and I always have the perc's to take if not. After being on them for 2 yrs. now I find that the oxycontin does still work and I can tell when it wears off. I could never just use percocets for my pain as I can barley use my hand without the oxycontin.

I would have the doctor try you on other medications. It is worth a try. If you go to a pain clinic. If not, I would suggest you try to get a referral to one to control your pain levels.

Grand Prix, as the Others have said, Your Body will get Used to Meds., and then the Pain will Increase. If you have been doing a lot of Bending or Lifting, You may have Injured it Further, even a Strong Cough can cause Problems Based on the Herniation Delicacy. I Chemically Walk, I Started with the Lower Meds., and know I'm through the Gambit of Meds., and Need Methadone and Morphine, along with about 5 Others just to be able to get out of Bed in the Morning. Please Check with Your Dr., it could be as easy as a Med. Change, and it's better to be Safe than Sorry!!Wink
