injured back
I have a doctors app and a w/c case manager wishes to attend.
A lawer told me that she can't go to my doc apps with out my ok.
I'm afraid that she is going to attempt to manipulate my diagnosis and
or tx. Does anyone have any advice on how to handle w/c case
managers?

RE: injured back
Let her come with you the first time and see how it goes. A NCM can also make life much much easier for you. Your Dr. isn't that dumb.

RE: injured back
Yes...I agree...let her play catch up with MD AFTER your appmnt. I also warn you about making small talk with her.....rarely are there "truely compasionate" NCM's. I had one that was HORRIBLE and one that was truely worried about me. It's the horrible ones you must watch out for.

Yes be careful of what you say! They seem so nice and act worried about you in the beginning to get you to trust them and answer questions and then Stab you in the back big time!My opinion

RE: injured back
You have the Right to Privacy, so You can Ask the NCM to wait in the Waiting Room during Your Exam, but there is Nothing to Stop them form Talking to the Dr, when Your Visit is Over, Their Job is to get You back to Work as Quickly as Possible, and Depending on the NCM will Depend on the Experience You have with them. I had 2 NCM's before My Attorney, and One was Very Good, but when My Attorney took Over My Case, He Made Life so Miserable for the NCM and Their Co. that I haven't had one in Years Now! They Work for the Ins. Co., and that's whose Paying the Bills for Your Injuries, so until or unless You Stop them, or Retain an Attorney that Does, they are going to be Around! Best of Luck, and as the Others have Said, be Careful what You Tell them, Remember Who they Work for!!Wink

Knowledge is Power, Especially in the World of w/c. Learn as Much as You can about Your States w/c Laws, and don't Fight Battles alone, They Use Attorney's, and so Should You!!

RE: injured back
I agree with the rest. There are some good and some bad. My NCM made sure she sat in every appt. with me and was very involved in my case and getting me back to work. But she also was very good about getting me the tests I was asking for, or the medications I needed. So they do help to a point but like others have said, their job is to get you back to work asap. You do not have to let them into the room and if I had to do it all over again, I would make her wait in the waiting room till my appt. was over and then let her in to talk with the doctor afterwards.

RE: injured back
I would rather pet a pissed off rattle snake than let a NCM in my doc appt...

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

RE: injured back
Hey Jayne, Yin again...
I have let her, as she is a her. In all my Dc. Visits so far. Maybe is a bit less tension for me. The visits are really a formality. Dc has already said TTD for 24 mo. From date of injury. I do it as a sort of entertainment. Presently the snake can not bite!!! Expecting to see fangs in the future though, thanks for laugh and smile.YIN
