Any ideas

I think I already know the answer to this but thought I'd ask anyway. I was going through my meds today to fill my daily bins for next week and thought it was time for a clean out. I have full bottles of several drugs that were prescribed and I couldn't take. I guess I have been holding onto them to see if I could help a family member. No luck. I guess I should just throw them out? I feel so bad knowing there are people out there who can't afford meds. I read in the paper recently not to flush them as it poisons the water supply. I guess no clinics or agencies take meds????? Too dangerous???? I just feel so bad but need to get rid of all of this now.

Unfortunately it does contaminate the water, but also think about how you would feel if you gave them to someone and they had a bad reaction.Ask your pharmacist how to responsibly rid yourself of them. I agree it is a shame that you cannot help out the needy but given the danger it is best not to.

Cap, Here in our small town there is a clinic where you can take unused meds etc and they dispose of them , It is through the City Health Dept. You may want to call around and see if there is anything like that there. Try Hospitals, clinics, Local health Dept's Or maybe your Pharmacy can answer that question.

Called my pharmacist and was told what they want us to do is crush all meds , mix them with something that animals won't go after and discard them. They suggested mixing them with coffee grounds or just anything that an animal wouldn't be enticed by.

Fencer...The only way I would have given them to a family member is if they took this drug already prescribed in the dosage I had and had no side effects. It would only be to save them a co-pay. I don't share meds that aren't prescribed for another person and I don't take anything not prescribed for me. As you said , it's too dangerous.

RE: Any ideas
I thought the idea was good that if the person is already taking the meds or has a label from the meds they are taking and cant afford to refill them that would be a big help like when wc shuts them down and stops paying for the meds.Like the AVINZA I am on it cost $340 for 30 pills and there is no way I will be able to afford them when they are about the only thing that works. Some how or another its probley not legal but it sure would help some out alot.Just my opinion.Born

RE: Any ideas
For those of you who may have problems affording your medications once you are off of work comp, I found the following website while surfing this morning as I am loosing my insurance for good on the 28th of this month when I go to long term disability. There is no way that I can afford half of my disability to go to Cobra payments, so am looking for affordable insurance, although I have applied for medicaid. You can have an income up to $84,000 and still get assistance with your meds.

I am waiting for my application to be mailed as the printer took a dump on us. Will let you know what happens when I apply for assistance through this program.

RE: Any ideas
I'm not sure this site is reputable. I question their charging $10 for the application fee. There are 3 reputable sites, I'll have to search them up. But anytime you have problems paying for medications you can first talk to the provider that is prescribing. They may have "samples" or vouchers. OR they can give you a written script, that you can contact the pharmaceutical manufacturer. You send them a copy and explain your situation, via email or snail mail.

Please be careful about using sites not listed here. Talk to your Dr. or visit the pharmaceutical site.
