Nerve Conduction Test
Last Friday I had a Nerve Conduction Test and an EMG done on my cervical area. The Dr tested my hands, arms, neck and shoulders. The end result was he said there was nerve damage on my neck and shoulders. He will get his report to my POR soon. What Can I Expect next. I wake in the morning with tingeling all over my head, back, arms and hands. I feel as tho I am afraid to move when I wake up as tho my body seems to feel paralyzed and I am afraid to move. After being awake and laying for some time I can finally move. I know I am not paralyzed just a strange feeling and hard to describe. What if anything can be done for nerve damage?

RE: Nerve Conduction Test
I was told it can take damaged nerves up to 2 years to heal. Sometimes the tingling goes totally away sometime it doesn't. I was put on Neuronton(sp?) for my nerve injury. Most of the tingling finally went away after just over 2 years.

RE: Nerve Conduction Test
I too have been on Neurontin for the past 2 years. It has pretty much taken away the tingling...but I don't thing that actual nerve damage ever goes away...I mean I have not been told that it ever will.

RE: Nerve Conduction Test
CF...that must be frightening. I also take Neurontin and it has helped tremendously for the nerve pain. You have a much more severely injured cervical spine than I do so I wouldn't even want to guess. I hope your Dr. can find away to give you some relief. I also have nerve damage in my neck and shoulder. The shoulder, arm and hand pain is horrible not to mention the cervical headaches. Don't get them too often anymore but they do hurt. God bless.

RE: Nerve Conduction Test
I am currently taking Klonopin for nerve pain. But does not seem to help. I am going to see what the Dr. says as I am in retail management and it is very physical. I just wish with the economy being the way it is that he would just put me off and let me get my LTD, or TTD or social security as I fear for my job every day now. Only time will tell.

RE: Nerve Conduction Test
CF...Klonopin alone didn't work for me as the nerves got worse and worse. I now take Cymbalta, Neurontin (very low dose) and klonopin and it's helping.

RE: Nerve Conduction Test
Make sure you stress to your doctor that the pain med "isn't getting it". There are many meds out there to try...you just need to find one that works for you.
Especially if pain is disturbing your sleep, as one cannot heal if not enough rest is acquired . Lilly

RE: Nerve Conduction Test
My hubby has had similar testing and has brachial plesus nerve damage ( at C5-7). One additional test they may do to rule out surgery or nerve grafting as a option is a CT myelogram, it will use dye to determine if the nerve is torn at the spine - if so surgery is an option, if not then time is pretty much the only healer ( from the multiple doctors we've seen). Nerves regrow at 1 mm per day so the distance from the spine to the affected area. For us we were told approx 12 - 18 mos. basically until the nerves regrow you don't know how much recovery there will be.
After several med trials and ganglion blocks the only thing that has made much difference was a combination of Lyrica ( high dose) and a low dose of Cymbalta. The tingling/burning is still there but tolerable, avoiding cold as that increase the nerve response considerably. Not sure what kind of doc but a pepherial nerve specialist/nuerologist is who we ended up seeing who had the most experience. OT focusing on sensory and maintaining fine motor skills also helped although it didn't directly affect pain. |
