RE: vocational rehab
First, can you tell us what state you are in?????
Second, you don't want to try for disability. O'K, fine. Why??????? The reason for both questions is this 1) WC is state specific and someone here may be from your state, and you may be able to get some info that only pertains to your state. 2) I hope you don't need disability, but if you do. You will find that, that can be a long road to travel. 8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom. |

RE: vocational rehab
I completely understand what you are saying. I was 39 when I injured my back. I only had a single level fusion but was left with nerve damage and am receiving SSDI. I am currently going back to school to get a degree in engineering. Something that will keep me from having to move around alot and have to move heavy items.
In reference to Voc. Rehab.. I can only speculate ( because I know nothing about your state) That they are going to see if there is any work you can do. I would be very honest and causious with them. After all, do you want to be a door greeter at walmart at your age??????? I would check out all the options they offer. They may have omething that will work for you. Keep this in mind. If you wind up pushing yourself to get a job that causes you pain. You may put yourself in a position to be in that pain for the rest of your life. Take Care 8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom. |

RE: vocational rehab
Hi..
Voc rehab helps some. In my case (I'm much older than you) no schooling was offered... I am on one armed restrictions (my dominant one is the bad one at that!), and they were pushing me to take any crap job available.....like driving 30 miles one way, to pass out pretzel samples in a mall!! This was extremely humiliating to me, as I used to have my own lab, tons of responsibilities, and made lots of money! They will push you to take anything....even though it's way below your mentality, and experience....as trying to get hired with a Wc injury and disability is nill to none. Lilly Injured worker, & tired of it all! I'm too old for games!! A careless word may kindle strife, a cruel word may wreck a life, a timely word may level stress, and a loving word may heal and bless! |

RE: vocational rehab
I think the way of reading this post is hard because of the lack of Periods.
From the way I read, they state company said no restrictions. Doctor said will always have restrictions. If they had no restrictions, they wouldn't be performing Voc Work Rehab, but instead return to their regular job. Reply's are intended solely for informational purposes. They are based on personal opinions, experience, or research and are "not to be taken as fact or legal advice", otherwise, always consult an attorney or a doctor. |

Seems you are feeling the need to be productive again and do not wish to live on SSDI for the rest of your life....Good for you....now give us something to work on your age, what was your job? Can you retrain for anything in your field? Is there something you want to retrain to do? keep in mind WC is not gonna pay for a 4 year collage maybe a 2 week training...and go from there....they do not care if you like your new job or not just can they push you into it......some of their favorites....passing out samples in a mall or store.....wal mart greeter......toll booth person......ect.... you get the picture....do you have a lawyer? Has he/she given you any advice?keep in mind it is their job to get you a job and once you have it they are done...they dont care if you only keep it a week or a year just get you one so they dont have to say you are unable to work....you should check your state some states have retraining programs that are better than WC....Good luck ;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

RE: vocational rehab
Lamike
I understand what your saying, I am 39 and I was hurt over a year ago. Not sure if we compare but I have 40 screws and lots of plates holding my hip and pelvis together and screwed into my si joint. I to could not support my family on what they would pay me on ssi. I pushed my self maybe to hard but I am back to my job and still in alot of pain. But I fair warn you I was ready to face what some dont want and that is training for somthing else or just be disabled and I did not want either but sometimes there are no choices. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find your place. |
