My saturday night
first I am sitting on the couch watching a movie all snuggled in my jammies, its late 9.30 or so and the phone rings........its my mom...Jayne can you come over here your daddy has fallen busted his head open and wont let me call an ambulance.......I tell her just let me get dressed and I will be there.....( my mother exagerates alot so I wasnt really worried)

I get dressed get to their house my Daddy who is 96 is laying on his bed with an open slit in his scalp down to the bone about 3 inches long with NO blood and he is white as a sheet...I for one second think no blood, hes white he is dead till he reaches up and slaps at mom to leave him alone.....so I go over and ask Daddy what happened? he said" I was taking my pants off got tangled in them lost my balance and fell agaist the door I THINK....
Ok Daddy can you get up and go to the car so we can go to the ER or do I call an abulance?(Daddy is like me obstinate to the extreems so I give him choices just not many)he says...the bleeding has stopped it doesnt hurt I will go tomorrow.and turns over to go back to sleep.....
Daddy those were not the choices I say the choices are can you walk to the car or do I call an ambulance?Mom interjects I was going to call the ambulance but he said he would pull the phone cord out of the wall!
Daddy you are going to the ER TONITE now do you wanna go by car or ambulance? at this point his temper and his wound are starting to ooze......Damn it let me get dressed......at this point Bill helps Daddy get dressed and I help Mom we get them to our car and to the hospital,,, we get to the er and I go in and ask for a wheel chair they ask what happened and I tell them My father who is 96 has fallen there is a 3 inch gash in his head down to the bone about this time the stubborn ol man walks in and yells I need a wheel chair for my wife.
I get him sat down and get out his medical cards while we wait for a wheelchair.....the ER is busy it is after all Saturday nite on top of which the life flight comes in to pick up a preamie to take to Tulsa....and there isnt a wheel chair to be found.
Bill stays outside with Mom watching the copter take off while I get to explain to the staff how he fell..... finally a chair is found they get Mom in and we wait.....
Dad is very hard of hearing and his voice is slurring and I wonder if he has maybe had a stroke? They get him back into a room and a male nurse comes in and puts a thingy on Dads finger to measure pulse and O content and Dad explains to him its not his finger its his head......it doesnt hurt and can he now go home?
The male nurse explains he needs to see the Doc and get his head stapled.......STAPLED I am not a piece of paper I do not needed stapled........the nurse just smiled and left the room to which point Dad takes the finger thing off and throws it on the bed.... which starts an alarm cuz the lines go flat....in comes the nurse and explains to Dad we must leave it on and Dad explains he needs his head "stitched" its past his bed time and he wants to go home...but now Daddy has figured when he takes off the thingie in walks a nurse so when he gets tired of waiting...............yep off comes the thingie whats the hold up you all have to send to Tulsa to get those tests he says
...in comes the Doc I explain what happened and that I am a bit worried cuz in the beginning Dads voice was a bit slurred so the Doc orders a CT scan blood work and a tetnus shot.....and wants to know what happened Dad tells him and says" the ol lady washed it out with salt water burned like hell but it doesnt hurt now....then looks at me and says Jayne why two Doctors I explained the first was a male nurse and the second was a Doctor he looks at me and says the fat ones a nurse and the skinny ones a Doc? yep Daddy that about covers it...
..The doc comes in and lets me know everythings ok and begins to do Dads head...I tell him arent you gonna deaden it? The doc looks at me and said He said it doesnt hurt...I look at him and say I bet he thinks it will when you start to staple it.....so the doc deadens it and puts in the staples all the while telling Dad next time tell the old lady to put wet tea leaves in it to stop the bleeding it works just as well and doesnt hurt as bad....The doc was from India.....any how we get Dad home and I get back in my jammies at 3 am...what a way to spend Sat night

RE: My saturday night
Been there done that Jayne, The joys of having elderly parents. My mom and your dad would be good friends. Both bull headed and stubborn. If my mom wants to talk she calls my sisters, but in case of an emergency I am the first called and expected to go to the rescue. Bless them, What would we ever do without them.

RE: My saturday night
Jayne...sorry your dad was hurt. He sounds like an interesting, wonderful man. No wonder you want him around forever.

God is never late.

In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years.
