Help with Elk

RE: Help with Elk
Backache...you are exactly right about the light. The light per the pictures is a little deceiving. However, based on what the camera allows me to see the lightness of the elk, especially its horns, it looks as if the light is coming directly on its face. On the other hand, if you look at the sky behind the elk, there is light coming from that direction also, and if you look at the elk's neck region just below where his neck is slightly turned there is a slight shadow versus the light gleaming across his neck with that kind of directional light. Under the neck, yes, put a shadow, but on the side and to the left of the neck all the way to his forlegs you may want to lighten it up or darken the horns and face. Also, if you look at the trees especially the one directly behind the elk, it is lighter closer to the elk than toward the sky. That is impossible. If the light is directional and pointed directly to the elks face then the trees would have more light on the outside all the way to the top with the top having the greatest light. The sun can't point directly only to his face, it would span the tops of those trees first. Does this make sense? Think of what the sun hits first. Then shadow the elk in to the water where he appears to be overlooking...and the grass...

However, in spite of what I just said, your picture is lovely. I could only wish as I said before. I could never draw an animal, only cartoon animals... such as mickey, or groofy etc... you are so very talented. I would learn more from you than you could ever learn from me. I am in a slump and have not painted anything for so long. HELP...love Red

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.
