RE: new-year-resolution
Hurt, when I was in the Navy, between the years of 1993 and 1996 I was the coordinator for the Navy's cessation program in the North east and then in Okinawa. I developed a program using the background theories for cognitive therapy. The Philadelphia debuty commissioner of the health department came to visit me on the base to learn about the program. He adopted my program into his programs. For the three years that I ran the program I ran a research with a hypothesis stating something like understand the behaviors associated with smoking such as socialization, nicotine addiction, fear of gaining weight and I believe there were 8 identifed, would enhance a person's ability to maintain smoke free greater than one year. I ran a 42% smoke free program after one year. The program included group support, medications for the addiction, and one on one therapy which I was the counselor for in the beginning until other sailors were taught how to manage the program. I enjoyed this collateral duty a lot. I received a Navy Meritorious Medal as a result. You can stop smoking, however, I will tell you honestly that Del, my husband was one of my numbers that didn't make the one year mark...he stopped for about 6 months and then back at it...he is a big smoker. I am always teased about him....love Red

RE: new-year-resolution
Thumbs up to anyone that try's to quit smoking. Some say cold turkey in which I tried several times. I made it 8 months the last time, now my father quit years ago cold turkey. Every time I started back up the harder it was the next time. Now I was up to 3 packs a day, tried different medicines and just could not kick it, and I do blame it on my other family including my wife smoking same brand. They always lit up in front of me, now I know it is hard but to the people who try to quit, they need a little respect. Now if any thing good came out of my injury was the coma i was in, which got me over the addiction. And my wife seeing first hand what a 3 pack a day lungs look like and have to be suctioned out constantly while on resperator. Now she has cut down to 5 cigs a day and soon to be done with it. It has been a year and 2 months smoke free, and to be honest I really did not notice a major change until 6 months, and now " W O W " can I breath. Even though I gained 40 lbs,---Which I hate---- I have a lot more energy and over all feel better. Now just have to loose the weight before WC tries to use it against me. LOL. Now that I wrote a book and bored you all. Have a great new year and pray for pain relief. Bronco

I quit 17 years ago next feb...used the patch for 2 weeks...to this day the smell of a cig can make me ill...depending on the brand.....for some reason camel cig smoke does not bother me never have figured that one out....but the others can give as little as a cough and as bad as a migrain....The doc said the higer the "other" ingreadients in the cig the harder it hits

RE: new-year-resolution
It has been 8 months for me now cold turkey and others smoking around me is not a problem. Believe me after years in nursing there are a lot of other odors that are worse. Quiting is a personal choice, But I will not loose my friends or family because I quit and they are still smoking. It was my choice to quit.....

The reason I quit was it was getting to expensive, or I may have still been smoking. I did enjoy it..............

RE: new-year-resolution
Iam with Tuffy, I quit smoking last year also. So Tuffy if you have a magic wand or magic pill on weight loss, please share it with me...LOL With being out of work for over a year and the quitting smoking I have ballooned up. I think Iam going to try Atkins. Has anyone else had success with Atkins?

Happy New Year

No, but Im with you I also would like a magic pill. My dr says to me that proven studies show that anyone who drinks 2 cans of soda per day puts on an average 14lbs in their life. Well if I quit drinking it will it take that long to loose it. What a moron.
