possible comp case waiting to happen
At my work we have to turn a breaker box off and on by hand, I was wondering, since I have been told to do it, if its legal in a sense to turn it on with the risk of it blowing? I don't feel like I have to put my life in danger for this kind of job

well that depends, for one is the breaker tripping and you have to reset it?two i dont see a breaker blowing up in ur face, not with todays breakers because if there is a problem or its over loading they the trip off rite away for safety.so give more info i think i can help.whats causing the breaker to trip????aslo what is it running a machine, lights,is it a single pull or double pull, whats the power 110,220,480????

RE: possible comp case waiting to happen
Well, We have to turn them off and on, on a daily bases, for different things, they run three large water pumps, and street lamp lights and such. Also the whole building that we work in as well, I work at a mini-golf course, and ever since I was told that breakers can and will explode, i've been paranoid of this one blowing up on someone at work....

RE: possible comp case waiting to happen
Breakers are not designed to be used as light switches. With that being said, I have never seen one explode. I have seen them short out due to the wires/wire coming loose, but never explode.

RE: possible comp case waiting to happen
i worked in a steel mill we ran more power than you can think about i have never seen a breaker box go boom, only if water got in a live box or something got put in that shouldnt be there.one never touch the box with both hands,if you must reset a breaker use only one hand............if you use two hand and you get shocked that will make the power go through your whole body and if its enough it can stop ur heart of blow it apart.im not trying to scare you just telling how to be safe.i have been around 480 three phase trust me this true.be safe.hurt
