RE: neck scars
Scars are covered under skin impairment in the AMA GUides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment and can or may be compensated anywhere on the body if meeting certain criteria. Scars from anterior approach cervical fusions are essentially not rated because they all but disappear in a few years because the surgeons cut in an existing skin fold or line.

RE: neck scars
Thanks for all the replys. My scar is very noticeable been about 8 months. Isn't in the crease because I don't have any creases. I guess I will wait and see what happens. Will let you all know. Also, my sister in law had the same operation about 6 yrs ago, and her scar is still noticeable, but it wasn't work comp related.

RE: neck scars
I had two surgeries on my lower back. The 2nd one was a dual fusion and I ended up with a 10.5 cm hyperpigmented sunken surgical scar (their description). The WC insurance carrier offered me $450 and then changed it to $1000 after I sent pictures of it. I have until Friday to sign the Stipulation and Settlement Agreement.

Hawaii has a $30,000 cap for scarring. I've been debating on fighting the amount but now that I've read your postings, I should consider myself lucky. You can only see my scar if I'm wearing a swimming suit.

RE: neck scars
As I said in my last post, my best friend has a huge scar on her ankle and was compensated for that through wc. So even if it is on the ankle it was compensated for some reason. I would have to check with her and see how much they offered. It was so much per inch. She had about 3 surgeries on it, with fusions.

carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD.
1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10%

RE: neck scars
It seems that really bad scarring is covered especially when it can be seen clearly. Thanks for helping me to understand this.

RE: neck scars
It is a disfigurement claim in PA if the scar is on your face, head or neck. As to how much it is worth, that is a question of how disfiguring the scar is. If it is prominent, raised, and discolored, it would be worth more than a semi-smooth scar that is not particularly noticeable. Such determinations are left to the discretion of the judge viewing the scar, so even with a very noticeable scar; the value would vary from judge to judge.

Wink RE: neck scars
Goodmorning all.

I to have major scars. 1 leading from hip to hip across the front of my pelvis. Then about 7 inches on my left buttock, then 4in up my side where they screwed my pelvis to my sacroiliac joint. 2 1/2in on my forehead and 2 scars from 2 chest tubes. And I to find this interesting because my lawyer says they dont pay for pain & suffering. Nor do they pay for scaring under wc rules. But is this somthing that the employer should pay? I dont know it just dont seem fair that if a person can hide there scars with clothing etc, they dont deserve it. Well good luck, hope for the best and settle with the rest.

RE: neck scars
The rules are different from state to state. In PA the scars have to be on the face, neck or head to be potentially compensable. The rules may well be different in your state.
