HarryO
Interesting you work with children. I worked as an Early Childhood Teacher for 10 years. I worked with children up to age 12 yrs, I miiss the children very much. At the time I was injured I was working with a young student that was having some medical problems. Back and knee problems go together. I do believe I injured mine when I injured my knees as that is when or shortly after the nerve pain started. I've had two physical therapist and one ortho tell me I will end up with back surgery. |

RE: Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
Harry, you can also ask your surgeon about a Knee Brace Unloader for the other knee. Ask him to write a report to it now being in relation to your other knee, and have the IC pay for it. The cost of an Unloader Brace is high, but I know people wearing them, that don't wish surgery, and it helps them alot.

Would a knee brace help my other knee? It has been giving out lately and I have taken a couple of falls. |

RE: Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
Yes Bummer, if the Doctor excepts it, and documents it as being related to you work injuries, and a result from your recent Total Knee Replacement, then you too can have him request a Brace from Work Comp Insurance for payment.
If you buy a Brace, I suggest one that has Veco Straps and wraps aroung the knee. There should be three holding straps on it. This is one of the better Knee Brace and Supports I had found. I own 2 different kinds of them, plus I also have the slip on ones when I am not walking much. I also have a strap on brace that holds 2 long Ice packs in it, it also has 2 extra Ice packs for the freezer, a total of 4 Ice packs. Good to use when home, or going on short trips. Also Bummer I would suggest the wrap around Lumbar support for you, that fits like a Girdle, for extra back support. I have 3 different types of them also. Remember, get you bike to ride at home, we need you doing 30 minutes atleast 3 to 4 times a day. Reply's are intended solely for informational purposes. RE: Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
Hi Bad Boy,
I am so thankful for the advice from you and Bummer. I am going to be seeing several doctors next week for my back and knees. I will talk with them about getting me the back/knee braces. I am scheduled for a MRI and X-rays for the back and knees. I am very interested to learn the results from those X-rays and MRI. At this time I am not thinking about going back to work soon. I have thinking about my health and situation with knees and back. I greatly appreciate the advice you provide to me. God Bless Harry |

Harry, also request copies of your Xrays and MRI films, also request copies of the written reports for them.
Then post what the Reports say here. Plus the fact, please stay up-to date with us. Reply's are intended solely for informational purposes. RE: Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
Hi Bummer,
I hope that you had a nice day today not to much knee pain/swelling. I think we have lots of the same problems with knees and back. I have been a little depressed lately but it will pass. I am a worker and that is what I do all the time is work. But right now my body is not up to the task. I have to learn how to do things different. I am not looking forward to the surgery on 1 Oct. In fact it worries me a great deal. At this time my left knee is very bad, my back is hurting like crazy and the idea of the upcoming surgery is a bit much. I miss working and doing the things I truly enjoy since my injury. I spend a lots of time in bed. I have tried walking more and longer but my right knee and leg gets to be very painful and swollen. I have pain from my knee down to my ankle/foot. My therapist told to take it very easy and prepare for the surgery. They are concerned about me damaging my left knee and back before the surgery. I am working hard with my PT. But the results don't change. I will hope for the best. God Bless, Harry |

I have open medical on the right, (other) knee as wc approved treatment for this knee. Past surgery for this knee was meniscus & pilca surgery in 07. I've also had a couple of doctors wc sent me to say this knee will need a future replacement. Thanks for the info on the back & knee brace. |
