Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
Hi To Eveyone,
My name is Harry, I am new to this forum and have been reading lots of information. This is a great forum about workers' compensation information. I had a problem with workers' compensation at the beginning of my right knee injury on 16 May 07. I immediately seeked a laywer for help. The good news is the laywer resolved the problem the bad news is he gets 20% of my funds. I had a total knee replacement on 28 Feb 08 and a knee manipulation procedure on 3 May 08 that didn't relieve the severe pain or improve the right leg extension/flexion. I have had two other doctors opinions and the outcome was the same I will have to have a knee revision. That means another right knee operation to correct the knee problem. I will have that surgery on 1 Oct 08. There are no garantees that this operation will relieve the pain or correct the extension or flexion problems. But that is a chance I will have to take. I am tying to get my right knee working the best possible. I haven't read any workers' compensation problems but I would like to know how people work through this type of situation with workers' compensation. I will be looking forward to hearing from members soon. God Bless, |

RE: Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
I read your post, but you will need to explain your question better as to what problems your having, other than just the knee.
I would need to know the State this is in also. If you had a Total Knee replaced or a Partial Knee Replaced? How many weeks of PT did you perform? Are you performing your home PT. When you say pain, please explain in full detail as were is the pain, when you get pain, and location of pain. The outer side of your knee may be sore and numb now, and this is normal, and may stay that way. Was you new Joints replaced and glued in. I have read those that didn't have them glued in, have had some problems. Does the doctor think you new joints are lose or moving? Reply's are intended solely for informational purposes. RE: Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
Hi Bad Boy,
Thanks for your quick reply. I am sorry for not providing everyone with lots of information. I live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I had a total right knee replacement on 28 Feb 08. On 8 May 08, I had the knee manipulation procedure. After that procedure I had severe pain and more swelling of not only the knee but the entire leg and ankle. Those same problems continue as of today. I have been performing PT exercises with the therapists 3 times per week for the past 26 weeks. I also do my daily exercises at home. I have severe pain inside and left side of the knee. I get this pain always when I walk or exercise the knee. The swelling immediately follows to the point I must sit down for a long period of time. The outer and inter side of the knee is numb. My doctor haven't told me if the new replacement joints was glued in. I will have to ask that question. The truth is my doctor don't really know what is going on within my knee. My therapist have told me to get a knee revision. On 16 July 08, my doctor to me I need to have a knee revision. But he couldn't explain what my problem is and he haven't seen a knee with the problems like mine. I have had recently two more doctors opinions regarding an each agree that I must have a knee revision. The doctor that is going to perform the operation on 1 Oct believe that the scar tissue and possibly the moving of the joint in the is causing my problems. He have explained to me that all of the scar tissue is going to be removed an new joints are going to be replaced. This doctor that is going to perform the surgery have operated on knees of this type with lots of success. The doctor's don't know what is going on within my knee for certain. I am still doing as the doctor required PT 3 times per week to build up my muscules before the surgery. God Bless You. |

RE: Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
Welcome to the forum!
I had a total knee replacement June 23, of this year. I am 8 weeks post surgery. I also have the problems of scar tissues in the joint and swelling of the entire leg. I haven't been able to wear jeans for almost a year due to the excess swelling. I have struggled to improve the range of motion in my knee. Physical therapy has been doing soft tissue massage of the knee, and it hurts but helps with the range of motion. I will be released from physical therapy this week. Flexion on my own is 106 and with force is 109. Extension on my own is minus 2. Bummer Knees |

RE: Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
Okay, if you have to have a Revision done, I would make sure the new one is performed and glue is used.
I would obtain your Total Knee Surgery report. That is the report that has to be writen about what went on during that surgery. I would also obtain the surgery report from the Revision when that is done also. I would ask for what type Brand Name Joint was used the first time, and obtain the Serial Number also. That can also be obtained when the revision is performed. Then ask, what type will be replacing the the old one, and also obtain that Serial Number. The information and serial number should be kept by you, just incase there is ever a recall on the joints used. I'm surprised you didn't know if your joint was glued in or not. You need to always ask plenty of question, and also need to research on the internt all you can, so you can ask questions. You write your questions down so you don't forget them, and don't forget to ask them. Doctor's respect people that ask questions. Also, you should be given Antibiotics before and after the surgery. Best ask about that also It's possible, your total knee replacement wasn't lined up good enough, or the Plastic Bearing between the upper and lower Metal replacing joint is to thick, to thin, or it is moving, or even one of the metal joints are moving. This is the Revision; http://www.or-live.com/distributors/nlm-...cfm?id=652 This is the total Knee replacement; http://www.or-live.com/distributors/NLM/rnh.cfm?id=306 Reply's are intended solely for informational purposes. RE: Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
Hi Bad Boy,
I looking at the doctors' operation report. The brand name of the joints are not identified. In his report it is noted that the A 5 tribial component was cemented in followed by a 38 patellar component, and then a F posterior stabilized femoral component and a 12 spacer. It is noted that stability and alignment were excellent. I will get the brand name and serial number of the install components currently. I wasn't given any Antibiotics before surgery. I have learned more in the few threads today than in the past 6 months. I am writing me a list of concerns that I will present to my old/new doctors. The pain medication, Oxycodone and Oxycontin made me very sick several times. I talked with the doctor but I had taken it 7 weeks day and night. I have already discussed with my new doctor the problems I have with pain medication. It is a major concern I have. I have been blessed to have found this forum. God Bless, |

RE: Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
Hi Bummer Knees,
I think we suffer the same problems with our knee. I am in my 7th month with the severe pain and swollen. There was many days I couldn't walk. My therapist didn't believe me when I told them several times about my problems until the saw it at each PT meeting. Then I lost my range of motion both ways. The knee currently is very sore and painful. But I keep trying to do all of my PT requirements. I now have major problems with my left knee/lower back and right ankle. Five weeks ago I had to have a shot in my left knee for pain. The doctor have requested a MRI this Monday. But I wish you the best with you knee and hope you get better soon. God Bless & Best Regards, Harry |

RE: Knee Replacement/Knee Injuries
Sounds a lot like me. I also have problems with my other knee, been told by several doctors I will need a total replacement of this knee. I sure hope not, don't want to go thru this twice.
I had meniscus surgery of both knees after my injury and continued to have problems. Once I reach MMI my attorney will file on my low back, I have 3 bulging disc and nerve pain down both legs. The doctor that did the first meniscus surgery release me with no restrictions and at the time I had great difficulty walking. I hired an attorney and was sent for an eval. The doctor doing the eval looked at my films and said I needed a total knee replacement. After measuring my legs the doctor became alarmed due to the excess swelling in the left leg and sent me to the hospital thinking I had a blood clot. I had test done and no clots. What are your numbers for extension and flexion? Are you using a cane? I had a stryker replacement. |
