DR visit & going on neurotin
I saw my family doctor today to address the issue of my back & the nerve pain that I have been having.
On the left side the nerve pain started after surgery and with it I feel my muscles tighten-up. On my right side I am now having a burning pain down my leg. So I visited with the doctor/Osteopath about this and he said, "We've got to do something about the nerve pain". I am being placed on a low dose of neurotin. I've read about the side effect many have on Lyrica which was the doctor's first choice, so I chose neurotin. I was on a stong dose of neurotin last winter for a short time with lots of side effect and went off the meds. Maybe this time I will have more success. I also talked to the doctor about the depression I have been having, we will also discuss this in two weeks. |

RE: DR visit & going on meurotin
You know the Neurotin isn't going to work, you tried it before. Why be so defiant about the Lyrica. The doctor gave you the better choice. You know the Lyrica just might work, you tried Neurotin...

RE: DR visit & going on meurotin
I've read so much about the side effects of Lyrica, and it being a newer drug the long term side effects are not known. Course it being a newer drug it cost more.
The doctor said I may of been on two high a dose of neurotin and that is why I will start on a low dose and see if it works. |

RE: DR visit & going on meurotin
Everybody has different side effects of course. I tried both drugs and both I had no luck with. The neurontin I saw flashing green lights and it never helped my nerve pain and the lyrica caused my body to have more aches and pains than I ever did before. I had swollen ankles and gained weight very fast from water retention. My ankles were so bad I could not walk. My daughter also tried Lyrica and had swollen ankles and severe fast weight gain.
I had a side effect of methadone also. Rash and very hot every where I went. I was sweating so bad just clothes shopping and had to stop it. Now when my pain is really bad ( as it worked great for pain ) i have taken it a few times and do not get the rash anymore but sweat alot. You need to at least try to drugs before you say no. Hopefully the neurontin will work for you. If not, it will not hurt to try Lyrica. carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD. 1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10% |

RE: DR visit & going on meurotin
Hi BK,
I've been on the Lyrica for several years now with great sucess. I am always reminded to take my morning pills by the burning pain near my shoulder...take my meds...and it disappears until it wears off. My evening meds, I take another, and it gets me through the night. I have had no side effects whatsoever....but then again, I take alot of nasty stuff for the heart, and plenty of other daily pain killers. I'm beside BBBB on this one.....you don't know until you give it a try. Take care, Lilly

RE: DR visit & going on meurotin
My plan is to try the neurotin first, and if it dosen't work I will try the Lyrica.
With Lyrica the long term side effects are not known because it is a newer drug, this was a decision maker in me going with neurotin. |

RE: DR visit & going on meurotin
Bummer, I take 2400 mg. of Neurontin per Day, and also 150 mg. of Lyrica per Day. The Neurontin is for the Nerve Inflammation, and the Lyrica is for Restless Legs. The only Side Effect so Far has been Constipation, and a small bit of Memory Loss. Both of these Meds. have Worked Well for Me. I have Read All of the Side Effects of My Meds. also, I take 12 per Day, and though there can be Effects that will Vary from Person to Person, You have to at Least give it a Try, in My Opinion, to See if the Benefit Out Weighs the Side Effects, if any. As always My Best, and I Hope the Meds. You Choose will Help You!!

RE: DR visit & going on meurotin
Bummer I agree with the group. I am med sensitive and have whatever bad side effects a drug has I will have it. Lyrica I tried for a week and was blown up and out of it. No concentration at all. That's me. I take a BP med that is never prescribed anymore because of the side effects and yet I have known. You won't know unless you try. I don't like trying new meds and waiting to see what will happen but I think IW are left wide open for that. I am wishing you the best with the neurontin and hope it helps. CAP God is never late. In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years. |

RE: DR visit & going on neurotin
I am going to fill the script for neurotin in the morning after physical therapy.
I've had a high nerve pain day to day, I hope the meds help. Thank you everyone for the information you have posted on this thread. |
