Moral compass
let me ask you all a question. I think I already know what the response will be. First I will set the stage.
I was taking an algebra exam today. I finished and turned in my work. There were three of that had finished before time ran out. The rest of the class had to turn in thier tests and they could stay after class when the lecture on the next chapter was over. So they could finish thier tests. I see nothing wrong with that. Here is my issue. Once the tests were collected. Meaning the questions had been seen. Some of the students were not focused on the lecture. Instead they were focused on looking up the answeres to the test questions. What do you all think????? 8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom. |

RE: Moral compass
wellllllllllllllllll I think they will lose in the long run.....I believe in Karma....each days work is a building block for the next if they cant do todays then they wont get tomorrows either so they are paying collage tuition to cheat? doesnt make sense... Slap some into them for me
;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

RE: Moral compass
AQA...this is sort of funny in that "what was that teacher thinking." Of course many students were going to do it especially if there was a particular test question that was haunting them. When I taught at the community college, every student in my class was in there last semester of an RN program so if given the chance.... they would do it, not because of morals or lack of morals but for pure survival. They have everything they own tied up in to $1000's of dollars they spent to be there and they are so close but still having a hard time and every point counts to graduate and get a job so they can feed there 3 small children...of course they will cheat. I saw it too many times in 12 years of going to college, and 3 years of teaching college part time. I do not agree with it, but I do understand it. However, by my voice of understanding do not think that I would do it. I would be tempted but my conscious of my upbringing would stop me, but not every one has the same conscious issues. If I did something like that...before I was out the door I would be red in the face and telling my instructor what I did....that is just me.
This could be a test by the instructor that went a whole lot farther than what you or I can see right now...just speaking from experience ... lol Red Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. |

RE: Moral compass
The college here does dumb stuff like that!!! The students will only get out what they put in and it sounds like they won't take a lot out of that class. Of course I shouldn't be talking with my GPA these days. I dropped so many classes I am now on academic probation as my completion rate is under 67% (I'm at 65%). I didn't drop due to difficulty but rather pain and lack of being able to concentrate.
Glad to know you are still plugging along. You were brave for taking a summer math algebra course My hat is off to you sweetie and I've been wondering how you are ![]() Hugs, monster Please click the link below to help provide food for homeless animals. RE: Moral compass
I think many feel it comes as a natural thing to say, when the cats away, the mice always seem to play. People sometimes feel like they need to take advantage of a situation. They don't stop to think how it affects them someday later in years. I can't say I never cheated. But even when I did cheat, and was dumb of me. The thing is, I knew the correct answers to begin with. So, cheating didn't give me any benefit.

RE: Moral compass
I believe that BB BB has mentioned a very important peice of information here about why people may or may not cheat. From my experience as a teacher... I had two separate incidents where someone was actually caught. For the one student there was no doubt in my mind that before the test that this person knew the answers that he or she cheated on .... but felt a need to cheat. I believe that a lot of people have a lot of stress anxiety about test taking. They have the information in their head but they do not have the confidence that they know the information and therefore give themselves some self assurance to elimate their testing stress by cheating. I hope that makes sense. This type of anxiety is a true mental health disease and not neccessarily a moral issue. There are others however, that do it because they know they did not do the studying required to pass a test of this of a certain subject or any subject. Love Red

RE: Moral compass
In the wee hours of the morning, I sent the instuctor an e-mail. I stated what had happened and suggested that when the time runs out and the tests are collected. That means the test is over. If someone does not complete the test in the given time frame. Thats it. I also told her that I would not point out the students that I had seen cheating. As anyone knows that has been through an algebra course. It is a building block for the next course. In the e-mail I stated they were not hurting me at all. It was just something that needed to be addressed.
Maybe I am just looking at this like a WC claim. Heck, all I want is a fair playing field. Monster, I am starting to believe that taking summer courses was a foolish move. In my great wisdom or the LACK OF. I had decided I would take one class for the first 6 week session and two during the second 5 week session. I was thought that the first part would break me in for the second part. Right now I am studying six hours a day. It is a real pain. The only good thing about it is that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I only have 6 more days left in this semester. Not like I am counting. LOL 8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. RE: Moral compass
AQA- just think of it this way-the more classes you take the sooner you will be done.

RE: Moral compass
AQA I agree with RN, less classes to take... Del took off 3 weeks this summer in June to go to Oregon, then the castle.. if he had not done that, he would be graduating in 2 weeks now he has 5 weeks left. The good news is he is done, or at least for 6 months he is done. he informed me recently that he is going on for his masters. That will be another 24 months. That is many years behind me times 2. I wish I could go back to school, but not at this time...so many memory issues and with the new health issues got to behave this time and follow directions. Red

RE: Moral compass
Red, please tell Del way to go. Glad to see he is going on with his education. You both are so smart and deserve all that you can get from this life.
