RE: dust mites/bed bugs?????
Hi oncebitten.. it would seem that you are in a very unbalanced work environment. I have dealt with this sort of thing many times when working in long term care or the hospital sectors of health care. As I read this, I developed a few questions about your situation. 1. Why did you think it was bed bugs without any beds such as in a hotel or long term care center? 2. If it is dust mites, is this building old or new. Has new carpet been laid before the itching began. Is the company using any new chemicals to clean your chairs, carpet, even desk or phone. 3. When the employer sprayed for fleas, what did the organization do for its staff such as any teaching on how to rid your home of fleas? Did they provide any cleansing chemicals to bath with and to bath your children and any pets in the house. What about your laundry, was it ever treated in the home. I mostly dealth with lice and scabies, not fleas, and if it was either of those things the dematologist most likely would have found it out with two biopsies. How do you know that the employees themselves are not carrying it back in after the building is sprayed. If you and your home is not treated, you all will continue to share the bug which means back at work. Also note, that the employer if he or she knows that it was fleas had a responsibility to provide each of his or her teaching on what to do with homes and what to do for the family's. Is there an occupational nurse in the organization? Has he or she ever assessed the situation from inside.

Also...do not forget about OSHA...their purpure is to assure the safety of employees in an organization. They may give you some help about this situation.

I would get all the information together such as what he said, dates of spraying and that fleas were found, location found, date found, what the organization did in terms of spraying by which company, and what the company who did the spraying reported back to your organization. I would get all you medical docutments and anyone else who has been going through with what you have been going through. Then make decisions with the group what you want to present to your employer.

Another concern is your customer. Do they enter the building ever? ARe they at risk of being exposed?

Lots of questions, sorry about that...I hope you are able to get rid of these bugs what ever they are...it must be very miserable for you and any children of the employees. Good luck...keep us updated....I will read along. Red

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.
