Question about return to work time post CT surgery
I just had my EMG today. It was worse than last years, but still normal. He said the median nerve is slower than the ulnar nerve than he should see. Also said that it was the slowest it can be and still be considered normal. When he stuck the pin in the muscle in the palm by the thumb he said it gave off some strang wavelengths. The neurologist who did it expected it to be worse than what it was. He says I have all the signs and symptoms including loss of strength and my right hand is colder than the left. He is still convinced that it is carpal tunnel. My other symptoms along the ulnar nerve he said shows where I have been compensating and laying my wrists different. He said surgery would probably be the best for me since I can't really change what I do at work. It's really exact work, holding your wrist a certain way.

My boss opened back up my WC claim from last year but they had not approved my EMG yet because the WC lady had sent my Dr. some questions that had not been returned yet. She told me to just run it through my insurance at this point and it would all be covered if it was determined that it is workman's comp.

My question is about turn around times. How soon were did anyone who had the surgery return to work after it? Was it light duty at first? Thanks for any input. I see my Dr. again on Friday. A neurologist did my test today. He was awesome, explained everything to me. Labgeek

RE: Question about return to work time post CT surgery
I've seen people return to work in a couple of weeks, to a couple of months. There is no tell as it is per person. My return was 4 weeks.

RE: Question about return to work time post CT surgery
Labgeek- it is hard to say how long you will need to be off, alot of things can make a difference. How fast you heal, how much PT needed and restrictions if any when you return to work. I have heard of those that were able to return to work in two weeks , but also some that have taken as much as 6 months to heal and then sometimes there is other problems that need to be addressed. the best person to answer how long you will need to be off is your surgeon. He will be able to give you a idea of how long he expects it to take to return if everything goes as planned.
Good luck and we will be praying for a fast and safe recovery.

May God send his angels to hold you in his arms

RE: Question about return to work time post CT surgery
Labgeek, I returned to work after 6 weeks. It depends on how well you are doing. I have heard of people returning in one week to light duty, but my employer said to stay off until I could return to full duty. It also helps to start some hand therapy right away.

I hope all goes well for you.

Let Go, and Let God......

Thanks for all the input everyone. I am going to the Dr. friday. My boss said today for me to take all the time I need, that me getting better is the most important thing. I am lucky to have such a supportive boss.
