frustrated RN
Hi

I have had 2 surgeries for full thickness tears of my rotator cuff within the last year. My last appointment with my doctor which was 5 weeks ago, he told me that probably at the next appointment which was yesterday i would probably be at MMI. Yesterday he said he wants to see me in 6 weeks. told him i was still having a lot of pain when i use it too much. still has me on restrictions, no lifting over 10lbs, left hand use only. also last time told me i would not be able to lift patients anymore(i'm an RN). My head was spinning when i came. do they do this to get you frustrated because i am.

thanks
laurie

Oh laurie, I've been wondering where you've been !! You 've been under the knife & on the mend! I hope you do not have to accept the fact that your nursing days are over because of your injury....but you need to prepare yourself, just in case. remember it ain't over until it's over.....you have 6 more weeks to come around!
I will keep you in my prayers for a great outcome...and I hope you can find strength and comfort in our forum words! (((( HUGS)))) LillySmile

Injured worker, & tired of it all! I'm too old for games!!

A careless word may kindle strife, a cruel word may wreck a life, a timely word may level stress, and a loving word may heal and bless!

RE: frustrated RN
Laurie, as you see there is quite a few of us nurses here. I was told 4 years ago that I would not be able to do direct patient care so very much understand the frustation you are going though. Think of another way you can use the knowledge that you have. There is a number of ways to still practice your nursing. If you have a masters then you can teach. You can go into research. Consult for lawyers, nursing homes, and drug companies, to give you some ideas.

Come often and know we are here to help each other. Prayers and angels coming your way for complete healing.

May God send his angels to hold you in his arms

Hi Laurie...I also have wondered where you went. I am also a should person. Only one surgery and pray to God I never need another. I just had another MRI done since after one full year after surgery I am in more pain than I was before it. I have so much damage done, I don't even know what they can do BUT honestly I don't want a second surgery. God bless everyone who has gone through any shoulder surgery let alone more than one. That being said I wish you the best with continued recovery. As Lilly said you do have 6 more weks to heal and get stronger. In my experience once you tear your cuff and it appears you have twice it makes it very week and prone to tears. I imagine that's why the D.r is telling you that you won't be able to lift patients. I'm sorry. I also cannot return to my pre-injury job which I loved for more than 20 year. Prayers for whatever is best for you.

God is never late.

In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years.

thanks to everyone for your support, i didn't realize i was missed.
i am honestly afraid to lift patients again after a couple of tears. is it normal for the surgeon to tell you one thing at one appointment and then say another thing at the next appointment. i feel like they are jerking my chains
thanks
laurie

Yes LAurie...Dr.s at times change their minds from visit to visit. I was told by 3 Dr.s that I am MMI BUT as you can hear they have found lots of damamge in my shoulder that was not there before my surgery so who knows what's next. I am with RNvic. Every time I have an IME my attorney sends a nurse with me. I know it's not what you'r3e used to but I have had a couple of great ones who have really helped me out and on top of it you are aware of the WC system. It's not over for you, hang in there.
