functional capacity evaluation
hellon everyone! I would like to know what a functional capacty evaluation has to do with any other evaluations you may have concerning an injury. it seems that i may be advised to have a laminectomy, my appointment is tomorrow to find out what the mri is saying. my pain persists. my question is if you have a functional capacity evaluation does that mean its all over with the dr you are attending and u are released with nothing else being said, or is it something you have as you continue to see the dr and have other evaluations and not return to work does it replace the ime?

RE: functional capacity evaluation
An FCE is to evaluate the type of Work You May be able to do with Your Injury. An FCE is usually done after Surgery, and Healing Time to get a Better Picture of Your Restrictions. I had 2 done at different Times after My Injury and they Both showed a Weight Restriction of 5 lbs., and a Less than Sedentary Rating. I was a Mover, and on any give Day I used to Lift items weighing 200 lbs. or More, and look what I'm allowed to Carry Today!! And they are still Fighting!! God Bless the Pa. w/c System, and the i/c's!!!

RE: functional capacity evaluation
thank you for your reply, are you saying you cant lift anything?well with your injury i guess i could put 1+1. i am sorry for you. I am trying to find out at what point do i ask for one, bc clearly they are not going to volunteer to give it to me. i am learning to document, and follow up on wc doctors office because they are like children, they can't be left unattended, they will forget about you the minute you leave them alone, at least thats my experience. my drs appt is tomorrow, and they will discuss the mri results at that time, my prayer is that they don't try to send me back to work at this time because my pain persists.hopefully they will be trying to do something to help me before they try to send me back,

RE: functional capacity evaluation
Actually, it is usually W/C that asks you to get an FCE and usually they side more with the employer vs. the employee. My lawyer said that this is what they ask for, when you get your mmi and it is time for you to go back to work. It tells them what your restrictions are to be, when you get a job.
With that said, after my 1st surgery, before we knew that it was not going to work, my surgeon said that he could refer me to have an fce done and if he refered it, prior to W/C asking for it, I would be able to go to the place that he refered me to. He mentioned that if they tell me to go for one, it would be at a place that they knew would side with them. So, it is possible for you to ask your dr. for a referal and that might be a better thing to do, than waiting for the i/c to send you to one. However, you are basically asking to go back to work soon after the fce...since that is the purpose of having one, to see what your work restrictions need to be. Good luck. |

Your Welcome! Please do Yourself a Favor and try and not Worry too Far ahead. I've seen a Lot of Folks do that and end up a Nervous Wreck. It's Great to Learn as much as You can, but One Step at a Time is Best with this Crazy w/c System! Best of Luck, and I Hope the Dr. has Good News for You!!

RE: functional capacity evaluation
If I may suggest this. I had several FCE's performed. Some were done to moniton me during my time at Therapy, to see if I could advance, and if I could increase my ability to function better.
Since I trust no one, I paid for my own FCE to be performed, one that was a complete FCE, to see where I truely fit in the work field. It was a Computer Operated FCE. I would say this has to be the best FCE out there. It stops people from making their own opinions about you, and gives just the real results of the FCE test. http://www.valparint.com/joulstd2.htm Reply's are intended solely for informational purposes.
