RE: Pre op Tuesday
Thanks Red. I'm trying to keep my spirits up. I really didn't want to have to fight this. I really wanted to get back to work as quick as I could. I realized that if you are killed in the line of duty, you are a hero. If you are injured in the line of duty, you are a problem. So sad. I feel so badly now for everyone on this board. To know that so many people have been treated this way is horrible.

RE: Pre op Tuesday
Copchick, I hope you get the surgery you need soon. Why did WC call off the surgery? It's been my experience in WC that I've had delays and denials for surgical procedures, but once the surgery was approved, there were no further problems. If you have a lawyer I hope he is helping you.

In the meantime, try not to let WC freak you out. Take care of yourself the best you can. Don't bear weight on your foot if at all possible. Do you have crutches?

I feel for you. I have been in P/T now for 4 weeks for achilles tendonitis and last week I twisted that ankle getting it caught between two large rocks. My Physical Therapist thinks I need an MRI because more is going on and my ankle is always swollen. I finished P/T today and have to wait until the end of the month to see dr. In the meantime, ice and tens machine. When will it ever end? LOL!

Take care of yourself first, even if you have to go to your regular doctor. If you get a denial in writing from WC, then your regular insurance should pay for the surgery. They (the I/C's) can fight it out later once your WC is settled.

RE: Pre op Tuesday
CopChick,

I am so sorry that the IC is jerking you around like this. It seems to happen more and more now days. As my dr stated today, most of them prefer to go with the most conservative measures of treatment that in the long run only cause more harm before they go for the more expensive treatments such as surgery. And then you have to jump through hoops to get that surgery, which unfortunately generally requires that you get a 2nd opinion first.

During my first WC case, I had no problem getting the 1st surgery approved (no 2nd opinion) but had to play the game for the 2nd requested surgery. However, I had a great attorney, and I don't know how he was able to get things done as quick as he did for me. The surgery was requested, denied, 2nd opinion appointment with opinion coming back in my favor and then 2nd surgery all took less than 2 months. Would have been a shorter time, but the ortho broke his foot in March and couldn't stand in order to perform the surgery for 6 weeks. I had the surgery in April, was MMI'd in June, had my IME in August and my settlement check in September. All in all, my claim was started and settled in just over a year and I was back to work in another position for a new company in January of the following year.

I guess what I am trying to tell you with all of this.... don't give up. Although your surgery was postponed (I'm not going to say cancelled as I am keeping positive thoughts that you will have it soon) for now, I pray that it won't be long till it is approved and that you are on your way to a near .. if not total.. recovery quickly and back on the job before you know it.

RE: Pre op Tuesday
Thanks everyone. A letter was brought to me today. I have a second opinion in two weeks. Angel, I'm happy to hear that they approved your first. Sorry they caused you grief on the second. I'm hoping that they will just go ahead and approve it so I can get back to work. I'm on guard though. The nurse at my doctor's office told me not to worry, that there is no way the second dr will say no to the surgery.
I've been staying off of it all the time. I have crutches, but I am not very graceful with them...LOL! I have to keep my foot elevated every night because of swelling. I'll be really happy if I never see another ice pack again! I can't drive, and I can only ride in the car for short distances before it starts swelling again. I can tolerate the pain some days without pain meds. Somedays it brings tears to my eyes. Thankfully, hubby usually sees it and gets the ice.

I'm going to try and stay positive. You are a great inspiration to that. I'm not going to go to the appt with a bad attitude. However, if he denies me, he better not speed through my town when I'm back to work..LOL!

RE: Pre op Tuesday

Hi copchick.......so sorry they 're putting you through this. Back in '99 I was scheduled for back surgery, had all pre-surgical testing done. The day before surgery i never heard from the hospital so I called. That's how I found out it was cancelled. Wishing you the best. Prayers that all will be done to help you out.

Red Gravy= tomatoes sauce cooked with meat in in. Without the meat it's still just omatoe sauce. Once the Meatballs, Sausage, bones, etc. are added it them becomes gravy.Wink

RE: Pre op Tuesday
Copchick,
This is just a suggestion to make you more comfprtable until your surgery is done. When I broke my foot, I started soaking it in Epson salts and warm water at night. It did make it feel better and helped with swelling. I asked my Orthopedic Dr. if it was OK to do and he said yes.
Good luck
Vickie

RE: Pre op Tuesday
I'll give that a try. I remember my grandma use to soak her feet in Epson salt. If it takes the pain and the swelling away it is worth a shot.

It is hot here! I went outside today for the first time in 3 days and I couldn't believe it. It said 91 degrees. I love Louisiana, but I really wish I was north right now.
