RE: DDE tomorrow afternoon
I hope all goes well. I know how it is to be in pain with your dominant hand. Seems everything we do only makes it worse. There is no way around " NOT USING IT" like all the doctors tell you to try to do.
I only hope that someone listens to you and helps you , as I am still fighting each day for just ONE doctor to understand my pain and try to help me. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD. 1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10% |

RE: DDE tomorrow afternoon
Sorry that it has taken me so long to post this. By the time that I got done with the DDE and came home, the BF was crying that he was hungry. So I fixed our supper through the pain, and took a percocet and my other meds while I cooked. I finished eating and was leaning back catching up here on the forum and fell asleep. I woke up about 30 minutes ago, so my sleep pattern is right on target tonight. I finished catching up here, and now it is time to post.
It's a good thing that I left a bit early for the appointment, as I actually went to the wrong building to begin with. Once I made it to the right building, I hadn't a clue what suite to go to. After three calls and 15 minutes, I was finally pointed in the right direction. An empty set of suites on the fifith floor and the room had a desk and 2 chairs. Of course, I had to wait in the hall while he performed a DDE on another patient. I was finally called in at 4:45. The Dr laffed when I greeted him as I told him that my son and I decided that we would call him Dr. Boo (his initials) as you can't pronounce his name. There are just as many vowels as there are constanants. So that kind of broke the ice. We started out with him asking the standard questions.. name, age, address, phone number, employer, date of injury ( I filled in a few blanks about when all of this actually started that the IC failed to provide him), what meds I was currently taking (explained I was taken meds, but not for this injury), what other health problems I had (told him about the tarsal tunnel and the resulting RSD. Told him that this wasn't connected to RSD in my eyes because everything is different than what I feel with that) and then he kind of threw me when he said he was going to ask me a few hypothetical questions. The first being would I be willing to get a steroid shot if my case is approved. I had to tell him no and explain why (my reaction to an ESI in August of 05 that landed me in the hospital and ending with me having diabeties), so then he asked if I would be willing to have surgery.. I told him I was willing to do anything that would get me back to where I was before all of this happened. He had no medical tools of any kind with him, but proceeded to do all kinds of tests. Most had to do with strenght, agility, ROM and such. So how precise he can be, I haven't a clue.. but if he goes against me, it might give me something to use in an appeal. He then asked me to draw a picture of what our cubicles at work are like and describe what I had to do every morning with the one I would sit at ( always sitting in a different one..as it is first come, first served) and explained that prior to surgery, I had been sitting at the same desk for over 10 months and never had to adjust everything for my use verses having to move the hard drive, monitor, phone, keyboard and mouse, adjusting the keyboard shelf and my chair so that I was somewhat in a comfortable position to do my job each day. After 30 minutes together, he was pretty much done. He explained that he would have me a copy of his decision within 10 days. Of course, proficeint me asked if that was 10 days from today, or 10 days from tomorrow. He said I was the first one that has ever asked him that question. It is tomorrow, so will know before I go on vacation the first of next month. He also said that he had to look at what little he got from the emergency room when I went back in March and correlate what is written from there with what I told him today. Funny thing is, I will get a copy, the IC will get a copy as will the Texas Department of Injured Workers. My attorney, who is the one that requested this will have to wait till the IC or myself gets a copy to her. I thought that was kind of strange. Now all I have to do is be a patient little IW and wait for the 26th (a holiday of course so no mail) so it will be the 27th and my mail to arrive that afternoon. I have been told not only by my attorney, but by the Dr that wants to treat me as well as the TDIW that this DDE, if in my favor, will have a major influence (this Dr is highly regarded within the WC circle here in TX) on whether I will get WC or not.. and that if he agrees that this is work related that the IC probably won't appeal. As soon as I know what he has to say, I will let y'all know what the answer is. Now that I have put my hand back into a great deal more pain, I am going to bid y'all goodnight. take my breakthrough meds and try to sleep. Sweet dreams.. I will talk to you tomorrow. Angel ^j^ I've always been crazy, but it keeps me from going insane. ************ Happiness comes through doors you didn't even know you left open |

RE: DDE tomorrow afternoon
I do not see how that would be any problem with them accepting it as a WC injury. You sit at a computer and use your hands all day. From what it sounds like, your work station is not set up good enough for you each day. It is difficult to work when you have to adjust things all the time.
My injury was accepted which is pretty much the same as yours. Repetition injury. When I got hurt they had to have someone come in from OT and fix the work stations with arms on chairs, lowered keyboards that adjust to height etc. I wish you luck in getting the doctor to approve it. I know just reading what you said to him should be no problem in my eyes. Let us know how you make out. I will be waiting now just like you to see the results. I really wish that doctor the IC sent me to would of said I needed repeat carpal surgery and I would of jumped for joy. Now who on earth would really want surgery??? Just goes to show you I would do anything to get out of this pain everyday. PS. as for hubby being hungry and whineing, i would tell him to make it himself. With my hand being in pain everyday, thank god my husband always helps me out and understands and says he would just have cereal or cook if i was hungry. Does your husband understand your pain? My husband even pours liquid soap detergent for the laundry into a smaller bottle so that it is not to heavy for me to lift. Just little things like that to help you out. carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD. 1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10% |

Sparkey... ~LOL~ thankfully, he isn't my husband. If he was... I'da buried him a long time ago. But honestly, he does a lot around here for me as it is. I just hate allowing him in MY kitchen as I always end up having to clean up after him. And it is just much easier to do the cooking myself. He has a highly stressful job, and has been going through some problems with the higher ups wanting to send him students that he is supposed to try and get graduated within the last 14 days of the school year. He is a special ed teacher.. though not for handicapped students. He gets the behavioral problem students, who know just how far they can push the limits before they will be sent to juvie. And there isn't a thing that he can do about it. Especially since Bush started his no child left behind. If my boyfriend can't work with them and get them to do what they need to earn their diplomas, then they become a burden on the state and most end up in jail not longer after leaving school. He has been doing this for the past 4 years, and has the dubius honor of being the only teacher that has stayed with this class for more than one year. But I have watched him age this year in a way that he hasn't in the previous years and it scares me. So although I could use his support with all that I am going through right now, I have my forum family that will get me through till the end of the year, and he will then have 10 weeks to recuperate and by my support before he begins a new school year, hopefully in a new position in a new school.
