Does IME give you a rating?
#1
Went to IME yesterday. Bunch of surprises to me. I thought I was going because my surgeon (DeQuervains release right wrist 10-31-2007)sent me to a neck/spine specialist and he stated he thought I had a possible pinched nerve in my neck. So I thought they were going to dispute it with this guy here. Oh yeah I don't have a lawyer yet. I will be getting one hopefully by next week.

I got to this dr. the IC set me up with. Was there for 10 minutes before this guy gets up walks over to me and states he is my case manager that my adjuster called and asked him to come. Oh was I pissed. He comes and sits beside me and starts asking all kinds of questions. Everybody in the office hearing all my business. Then says I'm going to go and talk with the dr. after you are done with him.

I get in there here comes this dr. with my file of all my records from the dr.s before. He reads through them in a hurry and asks me questions in between pages. Oh yeah the whole time the door is open so I'm thinking this guy they sent here with me is probably outside the door listening. Then he goes and claims he is checking my x-rays and mri's I had to take with me and comes back and starts making me do all these tests. Walking down the hall, bending over touching my toes, all but jumping jacks. He sits back down and then explains he is not my treating dr. and he was contracted through wc to do this IME. Then calls the man from wc in there and asks him what is it you all want? The guy starts to answer then the dr. says well I asked and she said she has to pick up 1lb to 40lb boxes at her job so I don't think she'll be able to go back and ever do that type of work again. I have her at a max of 25lb at times but no more than 10lb. Did the other dr. give her a rating? No, states the guy. Dr. says what is this list of tests you all have on here what do you want to know about them, the guy goes if they were warranted with this injury. Dr. says yes I believe they were. But I don't think she would profit from surgery on her shoulder, in the long run it wouldn't do any good. I think it's tendonitis. Then he asks the guy what do yall want me to do a rating? Yes, well then I have to say 12%. Are you seperating the wrist from the shoulder? No, well then 12% on the whole extremity. Then we leave and this guy is happy as can be.

I feel as though I have lost my mind. I thought when my surgeon sent me to the other dr. my case was still open on my shoulder. He never told me I was MMI and he never gave me a rating. If they can take me to a dr. that has never treated me and he give me a rating shouldn't my treating dr. give me one? If that guy was happy then I know it wasn't all that good for me.

Sorry this post was so long, I just wanted to let people know what you might run into on your trip to the IME.

Sorry you got hosed. Get an attorney and then get your own doctor to do a rating.

I had my IME on the 3rd this month. Same thing happened to me. I sat in front of the doctor in his office, he looked through the notes the ic sent him ( only what they felt was good info for them) and then after about 10 mins. of questioning, sent me on my way.

I am still waiting on the results. I did have a rating with a doctor of my choice first and the result was 19% whole body. The ic thought it was to high and that is why they sent me to a IME doctor of their choice. I did not have anyone from the IC there, but was thinking that they would of sent someone.

I cannot wait for my results. I am hopeing that this doctor was fair and looked at all my records first before making a decision. I think maybe they liked the 12% whole body and possibly want mine in that same range. That is why he may of been so happy.

You should get a doctor of your choice do a IME that has had you for a patient for awhile. I had the doctor that put me at MMI. You really need to get a second opinion. I do not have a lawyer either. I am hopeing i do not have to go that route. Sofar i have had no need for one, but will see when the results come back. I will fight for what i am due for care. That is all i want. To get well and possibly have the surgery i need for my recurring carpal tunnel release.

Good luck, and get another opinion. The ic should pay for you to have one as you should of had one before you had the IME.

Hi injrd,
Hurtatwork is right...Lawyer -up!

Sparkey...did you ever consider since it's taking soo very long to get your test results...that possibly it was in YOUR favor? Maybe this is why they're dragging their feet! Just a thought.

Take care everyone! LillySmile

And a good thought Lilly. sparkey the only time it took 6 months for my attorney and the IC's attorney to get the results of an IME was my first one and the IME was in my court. Also I am going to my 3rd next week and so far I don't know that a rating has ever or will be done.

That is a good thought. So if it is taking more than the 14 days, and is now 15 days, ( who's counting?) lol. it could very well be that it came back in my favor? If it was not in my favor, do you think they would of told the IC right away?

This was my first IME, and I only hope like i said, that this doctor agree's that i need the surgery again to relieve the pain. I have had everything possible to try to get rid of this pain,,and the only thing i would think is left, is to go in and reopen cause there may be scar tissue. The EMG even said i had mild distal delay. Same result i had when i had carpal surgery before.

This is not all about money to me, it is about living the life i lived before all this pain i endure everyday and the misery these people ( WC) have put me through by prolonging help. It is such a sad country the way we take care of hard working people when injured and pay our taxes.

Please, whoever is saying prayers out there, please pray that this result will come to me soon, and will be in my favor. Awful day of pain today also,, and trying to stick it out at work the best i can.

Thank you.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to find a lawyer. I'm still in pain and they just want to get rid of me. I have already got most of my reports just need the last couple ones. They (IC) claimed my surgeon had me at MMI but didn't give me a rating. I was reading on a site someone here had provided that after you get a rating they try to settle with you and can stop your TTD checks is this right? I am scheduled to go have a EMG done on April 28 will they still let me have this test done or will they stop it?

Sparkey, I'm sending prayers your way. I hope everything works out in your favor. Could you call the IC and tell them you want a copy when will they be sending it? I thought mine was alright until I found out how sneaky they are. I had talked with my IC the day before I received the letter stating I had this appt. with this other dr. for IME, she didn't even mention it to me, and sure didn't tell me about the guy meeting me there.

Usually before you go for a IME you are told in advance as this is something that you CANNOT miss. I am surprised that you heard about it only the day before.

The letter i got was from the IC lawyer of who the doctor was that i was seeing, time, name of doctor. I was reminded in that letter also that i have to GO. If i cannot make it, to call ahead to reschedule.

Also some states pay you your mileage etc. before you go to your IME. I will tell you that the mileage reimbursement from my IME that day was the fastest reimbursement i ever received in the whole year i have been on wc. The monthly reimbursements for mileage i have to fight for and keep reminding my wc adjuster to send it.

I was also surprised at the timing. I have always gotten mine in advance and has been written very professionally. BUT I have always had an attorney. Now with my first back injury in '99 I didn't have togo to one until 18 months after the injury. I had finally talked to the HR Director that I believed my supervisor was purposely keeping me out of work ( I was sent back PT with restrictions 6 weeks post injury) . He continued to deny me returning for 18 months after that. When I told the HR Director this since 3/4 of my job was paperwork I was sent for an IME within days and returned to work in less than 3 weeks after my conversation the the HR person. Amazing! Sparkey that IME was obviously told to get me back to work. He did and it only took days. Now with this injury my first 2 IME's have been in my court and I have never seen a copy of either's report but my ttorney did tell me at his depo the 1st one wa sdefinitely in agreement with my treating DR. So that' s my theory, if it's bad you'll here right away and if they're on you side it takes forever. Don't know if the DR. holds it back or the IC.
