Medication Issues Reminder
This is the second time I'm posting this today. My first post disappeared! Ugh!

Anyway, I just wanted to remind everyone, and the newbees, that if you have medications in the home, please keep them under lock and key and put away in a place they can't be seen. This is especially important if you have children in the home, or grandkids visiting.
Last night I dropped a 150 mg. tab of Effexor and before I could wink, my dog grabbed it in his mouth. Fortunately for me he hates to be yelled at and I said "DROP IT". I was paniced thinking he might swallow it. He did obey, thank God. He has also run off with one of my pain patches before I had a chance to dispose of it. I chased him down and did retrieve it. RX pain patches can be deadly to pets and small children.

Secondly, if you take medications, and most of us do, you will suffer from constipation sooner or later. Please take precaution, whether it be old fashioned tablespoon of caster oil daily, or something OTC. There is nothing worse than being injured and then having constipation on top of that and it can last for a good week or so before you have relief. What I use is Metamucil Capsules. I take 3 in the a.m. and 3 in the p.m., along with my other medications so I don't forget. It took a couple of weeks to get regulated but I wouldn't go a day without them now. They also serve a dual purpose to help lower your cholesterol.

I found Costco to be the cheapest with 300 capsules at $18.29. Walmart carries a comparable brand called Equate Capsules with 160 capsules. And these are on their OTC $4.00 prescription list. I haven't tried them as I stocked up on Metamucil, but they appear to be the same ingredients.

Any other discussion on these topics would be welcome. Just throwing out my thoughts today, especially for the newcomers. Tongue

Let Go, and Let God......

RE: Medication Issues Reminder
Last month I had a fellow doctor that was standing in for my reg. doctor and she was the first one in a year that asked where and how i store my medication. She was concerned as i have two grandkids that live in my home. I keep my medication in my bag high on a counter top shelf or on the fridge.

She said that one Oxycontin 40 mg. would KILL a kid if they were to take it. The pills are so small if anyone is taking them they know how tiny they are. The generic brand I get is a small purple ball. They are very easy to drop, lose. I wish they did not make them so small, as they are a very strong drug.

Just be careful and make sure that your pills are capped tightly. That was a great THREAD to Post Chris. With all the medications that people are on in this site, i am glad someone mentioned the dangers of meds.

RE: Medication Issues Reminder
Thanks Chris Chris, that was a Great Reminder!! You can Never be too Careful with Your Narcotic Medications, and if Possible only let the smallest Number of people know You take them! For example I use the Duragesic 100mcg per Hr. Patch, the Strongest they Make, and they are worth a lot of Money on the Street! You never know who may be Over-Hearing a Conversation You are having in Public, and You could set Yourself Up for a Break-In!! You can Never be too Safe in the World We Live in Today. Have a Great Day Everyone!!Wink
