Injuries causing more injuries
Recently I thought with the weather getting better and recently graduating from pulmonary rehab I was thinking that my life was beginning to turn around in spite of W/C. But all of the recurrent sicknesses has taken a toll on my body from the inactivity and made me susceptable to other physical problems in spite of recent gaduation from pulmonary rehab. I recently injured myself while trying to do some work around the house and ended up going to my PCP for a swollen left leg. Maybe it would not have been as bad if I had went to the doctor sooner but I was trying to be the tough guy and just ignore the pain and swelling. After an ultrasound I had a dx of DVT (Deep-vein thrombosis) in my left leg and was immediately hospitalized. I had surgery the next day to put in a filter to catch any clots that might break loose. So now I'm back home with more meds to take and more testing to be done and losing more and more of what I used to have due to yet another problem that I feel would would not exist if I had not had a work related illness to stop me from being active. I guess I'm not done going backwards yet.

RE: Injuries causing more injuries
Wow!
Did you notice any symptoms of DVT? This is one thing the doctor's are watching me for as I have had symptoms and at one point was sent to the hospital by the IME doctor. |

RE: Injuries causing more injuries
Looking back now I have to say yes after the education I got while in the hospital. The doctors said that if it does happen to me again that I will know a long time before I did this time. I must agree with that because when I had plueritis the first time I did not know what it was but the second time I had it I recognized it way before it got as bad as the first time. The swelling and pain seemed better when I was off of it or after a nights sleep. Before I was admitted to the hospital I thought it was a pulled muscle or ligament and kept thinking it was getting better, I think I was fooling myself. If I had gone to the doctor when it first happened it would not have been as bad, but I waited and until my wife told me that if we get to Miami ,Florida and I can't do anything because of my leg pain she would be very pissed if I did not see a doctor before we went. I am not angry with her at all because she had my best interest in mind all along. She keeps telling me I need to get more in touch with my body and what is going on with it and she is right. Like everything else I will go kicking and screaming to the realization that I was wrong AGAIN.
It is also my understanding that some of the swelling will never go away and I will always be at risk for it to happen again. Anyway I screwed myself out of a trip to Miami,Florida and what is worse is that my wife still has to go anyway and she is scared to go by herself and there is nothing I can do except to try to be supportive to her now.

I can't really say either way at this point in time, BK.
It just feels like being able to seek gainful employment ever again is slipping from my fingers more and more all the time. Nothing changes when nothing changes |

RE: Injuries causing more injuries
OMG CD>>>Thanks God you went when you did. That can be deadly if not treated which of course you know now. What are you to look out for? Are you susceptable to this for some reason? Is it more prominant because of your lung condition? Did the actual injury to your leg cause this or were you already prone and the injury made it come out? I am so curious. I'm sorry for all the question but I know it can be dangerous. Glad you're ok now. Sorry you missed Miami. Good time of the year to go. I have to agree that injuries bring on other problems in time. God be with you. Has your wife gone yet? I 'll say a prayer that she's comfortable. I know how she feels. I have always traveled with Hubby too and would probably be very nervous without him. Maybe I'll keep him around until after the PA trip and the FL trip. LOL CAP God is never late. In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years. |
