Oil Painting Lesson...
Ok..I did another oil painting.. that I took pictures as I went a long and have partial written directions.. I will start with what the finished product looks like..and then start with the beginning..if you are interested, just follow with me for the next couple of days as I finish writing it up... also lets play a game... take a look at the finished product and tell me what is completely wrong with it... It truly isn't my best but it was done in less than 2 hours...

Love Red

Hi Backache...did you really like it..and you can't see something wrong with it...look again. My signature is ususally in the left hand corner in Red..itis there but I would say that it is not real clear in this picture. Do you see any resemblance at all...lol Red

here is where I began... Pictures #1

The palette has the following paints moving left to right
Top row… Magic White, Van dyke Brown, Permanent Red, Burnt Sienna, Phthalo Green, Burnt Umber, Sap Green, Prussian Blue, and Phthalo Blue
Second row …. Has marbled mixture of equal parts of Black and Prussian blue and 1/4 part of Sap Green, Black, and Titanium White.
Brushes used are: 2 ½” Brush, 1” Brush, Large and Small fan brush, Scrub Brush, Liner brush, and small and large knife.

RE: Oil Painting Lesson...
1. Using the 2 ½” brush, apply magic white to the entire 16X20 Canvas. It has enough magic white when you can obtain a finger print on your finger when you lightly touch it.

2. Using the 2 ½” brush, make an X stroke (a stroke that makes small and large X’s) with P. Blue paint moving right to left starting 2/3’s up on a 16 X 20 Canvas to initiate the sky line. Assure that the corners at the top and the sides have color on them. While using the X stroke, leave spaces in between the strokes to allow some white to shine through.

3. Using the same brush as in #2 without cleaning paint your river flowing from the sky line about 1 “ wide painting back and forth horizontally widening as you approach the end of the canvas..which the river should measure about 4” at this time. Then starting with a small area about 1/2” start to curve toward the river and enter the river about 5 – 6 “ up…widening as it approaches the river. Also you use the same color as in the sky and the river...P. Blue.

2nd Picture here=====[attachment=670] Not a good picture...but didn't realize until I sizes it..and so it is to late to fix now. Red

4. Using a 2 ½ brushes, blend lightly starting on the left moving toward the right. Blending is a very light touch X stroke. Its purpose is to hypnotize the sky.

5. Using a fan brush, apply a mixture of Titanium white with just a pin point touch of red and squirrel your brush around in a cloud like motion. Once you have a cloud in, accent it by blending in the bottom of the cloud with the sky using a large fan brush that has been cleaned, and then cleaned again to lift up the top part of the cloud. Continue until you have all the clouds that you desire.

6. Using a large knife and marbled mixture design the mountain on the left side. Then once you have that done, lay out the mountain layout with a 1”brush without paint on it.

7. Using the large knife and small roll of the same paint mixture as described in #5 on it, allow the white paint to flow off of the knife as you move it lightly across the mountain starting at the peak closest to the left and moving out toward the canvas board…this will give you a beginning of an outline of the mountain.

Picture #4====[attachment=672]
I will finish it later today or tomorrow... have fun looking for the mishaps... in the painting

RE: Oil Painting Lesson...
Hi jayne...that is a good guess..however, if you have ever been to Oregon you would know that due to the height of the mountains..there is snow on the peaks all year round... and that you can ususlly feel it in the icy cold rivers in the summer.... great guess however... try looking closer at the river... love you all Red

Red, Is it where the water is splashing up over the bank??

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.
It's about learning to dance in the rain.
