Question burning from pain patches
I have been using tiger balm pain patches since my injury and they have always worked great until this week.
For the past week the muscle spasms in the area of the S1 joint have become stronger keeping me awake at night, flexeril does not help. I have also noticed the skin feels heated in the S1 joint area. Attempting to get some relief Monday night I placed a Tiger Balm pain patch in this area of my back and had to removed it due to an intense burning pain of the skin. Has anyone had this experience before? The pain patches come in a box of 5 and I have used the other patches from this box on my knees with no problems. Thanks Bummer Knees |

RE: Question burning from pain patches
I tried bengay once on my neck .... first and last time ... It burned like crazy ...
My opinion was because of all the bulges and hernation .. along with muscle spasms .... Maybe way to many things inflamed ??? |

RE: Question burning from pain patches
Bummer...I do not have any experience with what you have been using either. I am wondering if it has any chemicals at all in it, and if they have a tolerance level that builds in the body? Other than that..I have no idea why you should be experiencing burning now... also, often people will go their whole life and never have a reaction to a bee sting then suddenly they have an alergic reaction to many different extremes from rashes to death... so maybe you are experiencing an allergic reaction to it. Let us know if you come up with an answer..love Red

RE: Question burning from pain patches
Are you washing the area first between applying ? I do know that the nicotine patches can burn if you dont clean the area each time or apply to a diff area .
Same with bengay never reapply without getting all of the old off first |

RE: Question burning from pain patches
I don't apply the pain patches everyday and am cautious in using them.
I have to wonder if the burning has anything to do with the hard muscle spasms I have been having; I do plan on calling my doctor tomorrow and request a stronger muscle relaxer. There have been reports of over dose with the use of multi patches at a time. |

RE: Question burning from pain patches
Bummer,
I have had flexeril myself for many problems i have had with my muscles in my back and legs. I have RLS ( restless leg syndrome) and take ativan, and also i had many years ago asked the doctor to add Soma ( carispadol) which is a stronger muscle relaxer to my night time regimine as my legs were still having muscle spasms. I definitly recommend Soma, but it does say that it is addictive, but i have gone many weeks without when i cannot get home to fill it, and i do not see a problem with addiction after many years of use. It may even help you with sleeping as i find it knocks me out at night. I only take it before bed. As far as the patches. Sometimes the company may make them and during the production line, could have more of the medication on them. I am thinking that maybe if you bought another box of them maybe you could try to see if it makes a difference. Also others may be right about using them all the time and then finally getting a allergic reaction to it after time. Good luck and hope you have a pain free day. carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD. 1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10% |

RE: Question burning from pain patches
Bummer,
I use Zanaflex as my muscle relaxer, after many months of using Flexeril with no relief. I can take this during the day with no tired feeling, my Dr. increased the amount to 3 of them at bedtime to help with the spasms during the night. I originally was on Soma which worked great, but had to be taken off of it due to severe drowsiness during the day, if I didn't have to work I would use Soma. Does the Dr. have you on any anti-inflamatories? I take Lodine. Just a thought. I hope you soon get the relief you need. Take care Vickie |

RE: Question burning from pain patches
Hi Bummer,
Possibly the burning is caused from the skin in that area to be more sensitive than where you normally put it. I wear Nitro patches for angina. I can easily wear them on my chest, although they have some burning/itching sensations....but if i put them on my upper arm they burn like holy heck! Maybe there's more pain sensors in my arm area or something....so I've learned to use them only on my chest. As far as the Soma....I have taken this for years....and have not had a problem w/ addiction. I orig was put on them when it was found i was having lupus flares...and as long as i take em....no problems, BUT go off them for a few months, & I'm back to terrific all over body aches like you can't believe, and an elevated ANA blood test. So I ALWAYS take them...just not as many as perscribed. Take care, ((hugs)) Lilly

RE: Question burning from pain patches
Spasm's, I would use my Opinion, that you can talk with your Doctor, about the use of Meds in the form of (Baclofen). These meds start out like 5MG's 3 times a day for so many weeks, then 10MG's 3 times a day for so many many weeks, and up and up the dose goes till the goal has been completed. Your Doctor will monitor your goal of Spasm's with you. Sometimes, 10MG's 2 times a day will work for many people. I now only take 1 10MG pill at early evening for the Leg Spasm's. Seems to allow me to sleep through the night much better.
NOTE; It's an issue you and your Doctor would need to talk about. Reply's are intended solely for informational purposes. They are based on personal opinions, experience, or research and are "not to be taken as fact or legal advice", otherwise, always consult an attorney or a doctor. |
