RE: Help with spasms
Red
Thanks for explaining that so others can understand what is going. I have been dealing with Peripherial Neuropathy for 3 years now and even though it is mainly in my legs - in that 3 years it has progressed to the top of the legs. As far as the burning goes that is almost body wide as I also deal with small fiber neuropathy as well body wide. So I am well use to miss firing nerves - and I really hate it when they happen in my feet because I don't know what that will bring for the day. As for the spasms in the past when I over did it - the spasms were always between the shoulder blades and maybe they would go up to the lower neck at times kicking in a migraine. So these are a big change for me since these now go all the way down to the end of the rib cage and up the neck including the side of the neck and now the electric shocks (which before were just in the arms not in the shoulders or upper back and scapular area). These spasms have been bad enough to leave red marks on my back - some on the spinal area and others on the scapula. I did put a call into the ortho today - but didn't get a call back this afternoon - so if no call back in the morning I will call again and see what is going on. |

RE: Help with spasms
Morning pooh.........it sounds like you have alot going on that maybe your ortho isn't aware of. good deal that you are on top of it. I have seen people have more problems from the wrong PT. I have noticed that between the fibro and just all other injuries that sometimes one part is worked on and it sends signals somewhere else. Please keep me updated on what the ortho says. I never heard back from the surgeon either but will see my PCP this morning for the dizziness and nausea. Will start seeing my PT who worked on my neck next week and we WILL have a talk before anything is done. I don't like when one PT says one thing and the very next day I have another one who does something totally different that brings me more pain. So i intend to clear upwhat should/should not be done at this point in recovery. Best of luck. Let me know. CAP

RE: Help with spasms
Thanks Cap
Didn't hear back from the ortho again today - so guess now will have to wait until monday and deal with the spasms all weekend but as long as I am having all these spasms I can't do the home exercises either - so really what good is the PT doing if I can't do them. Doesn't make sense to me. I mean today we went to Wal-mart and I picked up a gallon of stain for the fence - something that may cause some pain normally but nothing that I can't live with since it's just going in the cart. Instead it now sends my back into spasms. Same goes for cooking, petting the cats. I did manage to get my son's prom dates hair done this evening - worked through it all. Tried to get her hair styled like Veronica Lake - for you old timers out there. So just doing the best I can - really don't like this because means that I can't do like I normally do for when driller goes out to the rig - fixing him so home cooked food to take with him cause it will really kick up the pain levels and spasms. So last hitch he took tv dinners. |

RE: Help with spasms
Pooh I am so sorry to hear that the spasms are continuing. I had hoped that they would stop by now. It has to be very uncomfortable for this long of a time period. My thoughts are with you.
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind. |

RE: Help with spasms
Morning Pooh......It is the single thing I hate about PT, is when it sets something else off that YOU have to deal with until it settles down. Are you going to PT before you hear back from the Dr.? If so make sure they're aware of it all. My first back injury I had 3 epidurlas in a row. wasn't feeling bad. Dr. sent me to his PT facility joined to his practice. The first day I went they put me on a bike and stepper. While on the bike I jumped up because it felt like a piece of leather from the seat was torn and bit my butt LOL. No, what happened was I strained my piriformis muscle and it compressed the sciatic nerve. WHen I saw the Dr. to tell him , he called his PT over and blasted him right in front of me and said "maybe I can have the patient tell you what you can/cannot do with a new back injury. I was so embarrassed but it got me into another PT facility. Had to start all over. It then took over 1 year of massages, a chiro and finally a wonderful work hardening therapist who stretched it out. for the first time in 18 months I could walk normally. This was all brought on by PT. Scary. I have the same thing going on now. Have really good ROM in the shoulder BUT the other day with this crazy PT pulling and twisting it took two days for me to settle everything down. I know PT hurts but walked out of there with pains in my neck AGAIN, my trap muschles were screaming and my pecs on the side of surgery were blown up like a balloon. Pecs weren't swollen when i got there but of course she said it's normal. Be careful , hold your ground. Please don't let them hurt you more. I know you're too smart for that but you know we all dowhat we have to do to try to get well and sometimes our efforts make us worse. It's so upsetting to be able to function and then have PT mess it all up. I'm praying for some peace, answers and a pain free day for you.CAP

RE: Help with spasms
Cap
I don't go back to PT until Tuesday so I will have a call into ortho first thing Monday morning because right now anything sets off the spasms, even sitting here typing this up. So things that I could do before - although I had pain to deal with and I could deal with it through alternative pain management is now getting harder to deal with it that way. The muscles in my neck are so tight at the moment it is not funny. I did talk to the one therapist that did the evaluation on Thursday and she couldn't understand why I was getting worse and the other one told her that my neck muscles were all in knots. But They say if it bothers me not to do them, when your in spasms everything bothers you - so what can you do ........ a no win situation in my book. |

Pooh,
I sure do wish I had an answer that would help you.  I suffer so bad with spasms that my arms and legs both get completely twisted.  At that, I am on Bacoflen and Zanaflex for the spasms.  God, I can't get my own under control.  As much as I wish I could help you or anyone else with this type problem, I am drawing blanks on this one.  I do hope that you find some relief and when you do please share it.  I could use it myself.  Take care sweetie! RE: Help with spasms
Well spasms have pretty much settled down for a bit - still getting some in the middle back - like before - but the cervical stretches they gave me last week do seem to be helping quite a bit.
Or maybe it was what I did this weekend - my therapists told me to take it easy for a co uple of days to let the muscles relax a bit more ........ lol but she didn't find any spasms like she did last week which was a good sign. |

Pooh,
So sorry to hear that you are still suffering so bad with spasms.  I know somewhat of what you are going through but you sound worse off than I am with the spasms.  Earlier in your post I did not post.  You seem to have tried everything that I would have suggested to you.  Of course we know we both know the ropes.  I wish I could take that pain away from you as you know I would.  I will continue to pray for this problem to stop so you can have some relief.  Tell Driller I said hello from the Cajun Mama.  God Bless my fiiend and take care. RE: Help with spasms
Will Do MJC
he's off to the rig at the moment. I bet he was happy cause his shoulder was hurting as well. I think he was hoping there was something they could do for the shoulder to help ease my pain some, but doesn't seem to be the case and I am just stuborn enough to stay off the pain pills until I absoultely need them which can drive him nuts as well cause I really don't build up a tolerence to them that way. But hey it works for me. |
