Ideas on how to calculate SSDI payments
Good morning all. Thanks again for all your words of wisdom.

Question for you veterans. If husband get's SSDI, how do I figure family benefits? I have his earnings form. Say for example, he get's $800 in disability and maximum family benefits is $1,500, will he get $800 and the kids and I split the family benefits up to $1,500? So together, the family (with hubbie) would get $2,300? I am so not understanding this.

Plus if he settles his WC case, SSDI is reduced until the WC money is exhausted. Is there a seperate account set up for his WC settlement? Does the atty monitor his WC settlement? I am green to this all.

I just want to have some idea of what happens.

Thanks to all! You all are awesome!

it can go a hundred different ways....there is no one way to answer you

;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....Smile

LOL, thanks Jayne. I think this is my problem with this whole worker's comp/Soc Sec stuff. I am a cut and dry type of person and want to call what the shots will be before it happens. I am a planner. I guess I have gotta let go of that before it drives me insane.

Hope you all are doing well.

Thanks!

RE: Ideas on how to calculate SSDI payments
wife of injured man'

First off, you get nothing, then your husband will see his amount based off his last 5 years pay, then they take the highest year earnings. Then they pay the kids a certain amount by check also each month till they reach 18. The money for the kids has no affect on his monthly check. But his check could become smaller if the settlement isn't properly worded. (EXAMPLE Only) Settle to say amount paid for year 2008 to say year 2025. Then the amount is broke down into yearly amounts. Since that's done, SSDI checks may not reduce much then. Like I said, there are many ways of wording the settlement, and wording it to SSDI. Your Attorney should do this for him.

RE: Ideas on how to calculate SSDI payments
Thanks for clarifying this for us. I do not plan to let hubbie settle anytime in the near future. It is a mess. Mediation in the spring (probably not open medical). Cannot settle like this. I am concerned about that one. Cannot wait possibly 26 months for Medicare to kick in.

Hope you are doing well?

Blessings to you
