contacted vocational rehap
Hi all. I contacted Voc Rehab in our state. They now have Hubbie a file and will contact him to get medical records and decide what type of work he could possibly do with a neck and back injury, nerve damage in his leg and severe carpal tunnel (thoracic outlet syndrome?, to be checked out). I am hoping that we will get some type of help. Hubbie was a hard working laborer with a high school education.

Would they "retrain" him for other types of work that does not involve "hard labor"? Perhaps college courses that he can begin at home on the computer? Right now, his mental capacity is shot. I am worried about all this.

Has anyone used Voc Rehab? Any thoughts or words of wisdom?

Thanks for all your advice and kind words. Blessings to you all!

RE: contacted vocational rehap
I am presently using the services of voc. rehab. and hopefully will be for the next four years. They are paying for my education. From what I have read from others and my own experience. Voc. rehab. is different from state to state. In my state wc has nothing to do with voc. rehab. and I think that is why some have such a hard time getting retraining.

Before I was approved for retraining I had to have a mental eval and educational eval.. Your husband may want to get a copy of his medical records for himself. I have found that, that action alone saves a lot of time. I have made copies and hand delievered them where need be to save time.

8-05, Micro laminectomy/disectomy. 10-05 lumbar fusion L5-S1. 2-07 exploritory surgery. 12-07 medical implant, Spinal Cord Stimulator. now receiving SSDI. Jesus died for our sins. Soilders died for our freedom.

The NC dept of VR might give you a better idea of what to expect

p.s. you should include your state in your user profile if you are going to be posting regularly; otherwise wel won't know which state rules apply
