this is a follow up to my thread from yesterday. After being informed that w/c was not filed, I began to question my employer about this matter. I was informed that " I was barking up the wrong tree. If I wanted to keep my job, I needed to forget about this, and keep my mouth shut." My boss told me this and he also told me that if I repeated it he would deny ever saying it. I live in the county in SC that has the highest unemployment in the state so I guess I have no choice but to drop this or get fired. Thanks for your help though, it is greatly appreciated.

RE: please read
Contact your state workmans comp dept. and ask the question as if it is about a friend etc. and see what they say your options are. It is definately against the law, not to mention if you continue to work and and get worse...you are injured (perhaps permanently) and it will be too late to file W/C.
If I am remembering correctly, is it your hand that was cut? I can see if it is a small issue and you think that taking out the stitches is all that will come of it...I can see how it may not be worth getting fired over a 75.00 Dr. visit. If its a large cut that you may need numerous appnts. or there may be future problems that come from this injury, then you really need to think about your future health care etc. Let us know the seriousness of what has happened. I'm jsut curious. My daughter just sprained her wrist at work and she called me as she was driving to the ER. With my experience of W/C, I told her to use her regular insurance and to not mention a work injury. However, if I thought there was the smallest possibility that she seriously injured herself, I would have told her to fight for W/C...so I understand you not wanting to loose your job. You need to do what is best for you, but make sure you have all the info. on both sides, before doing what your boss tells you that you have to do ![]() Keep us updated. |

I think I'd tell the boss like this if it is just a simple cut....
If you take care of my medical costs (get it in writing)...I won't report you. Two can play that game! Lilly

If its just the day of no pay that you are really upset about.. I agree with some of the others and let it go. ONLY because of the huge unemployment in your area.If it was a serious injury..then defintely bitch but work safe and drop it because your boss, sad to say, has you over a barrel and he knows it. He will get his due..Karma has a way of coming back around and SMACKNG YOU IN THE FACE!! RSD..no CURE....but there is HOPE! Go Georgia Bulldogs..RUFF, RUFF, RUFF |

only you can make the decision on what to do in this situation..................it does sound as if this employer or at least your boss is arrogant and uncaring but what goes around DOES come around................hopefully you sustained a minor injury that will never bother you again...............Lilly made a good point about asking them to compensate you for the 2nd dr vist (which BTW is usually free at least in my neck of the woods-come on it takes the nurse 2 minutes) and/or any lost time................... good luck and stick around................check out the off topic area too! nurse83 "After all, tomorrow is another day." Wishing you a better tomorrow! |

RE: please read
First off i would say, you have a VERY RUDE, UNCARING EMPLOYER. He is only afraid his insurance will go up if you file. That day you confronted him should have opened your eyes to what kind of person you are working for, and i would be searching to work for someone else now. This is a sad situation of how we help our fellow workers, and how we are treated when we are injured working for them. I am sure there is other companies that you can find place of work other than what you are working for now. He should be reported for what he did and he should have somewhere posted his wc info. Call that number and tell them how you were treated. Think about the next person that this may happen to and how they would be treated if their injury was much worse even.
Good luck in getting better. carpal tunnel recurrence/ neuropathy / RSD. 1/29/07 injury date. Permanent. PIR settlement 8/4/08 10% |

RE: please read
My Opinion Only, I would Start Looking for other Work, if Your Employer can be such an A** over a Cut with Stitches, what if You are Seriously hurt such as I am and become Totally Disabled? I'm not Putting Your Injury as not being Serious, I'm just trying to make a Point Here. I would wait until I found other Employment, and then Turn the Bas***d IN!!! Best of Luck, and I Hope All Works Out for you!!
Failed Back Surgery, Chronic Pain, Totally Disabled. Knowledge is Power, Especially in the World of w/c. Learn as Much as You can about Your States w/c Laws, and don't Fight Battles alone, They Use Attorney's, and so Should You!! |
