In freference to speach class. I barly passed the first on. But that is ok with me. I have four more to go ,so I can build that score up. My question is about MLA or APA format for the speech layout. Does anyone have any idea what MLA and APA format mean??????? I am hoping not to have to read another book to figure it out.

O yea, my last speech changed. Since the young lady was not there I decidide to make up a student and her name was MONSTER. All the students wanted to know who you are and where the farm is.LOL

If anyone has any info on the MPL or the APA I would be very greatfull. It is to be used while writing what the speach will consists of. the general purpose, the specific purpose, thieesus and main points. All help will be appreciated.

Hi AQA...APA I know very well and can help you if you like. It is an acroym for the "American Psychology Association." I have always used it for the millions of papers I have written for education. I have a wonderful book here, so asked and I will help you. You may have to email me your papers to my private email so that I can proof them for you and fix the APA. The APA has to do with how you reference information etc. For instance, how do you paraphase, how do you use Quotes, how do you write the reference in the paper etc. It also has to do with paper formatting such as indentations, headings, dates, running heads etc. I loved APA, but I most likely the only one in the world who does. I found during my comp class that MLA is a lot easier to use. APA is more for scientific papers and MLA is more for business. Just look them up on the internet and it will show you the difference. A decent book that explains writing is "The Writers Way". I can't think of who wrote it right now. I may be able to get back to you tomorrow if you need me to. I had a few drinks tonight (no meds for a few days) so I'm not thinking very clearly right now. Well see what tomorrow brings besides homework!

You got excellent answers from both Red and KS. APA is used more for scientific research papers and MLA is much easier to format.

Not sure if these formats are up to date, they like to change things just to keep people on their toes I think. There used to be site that you could use as a template...type your stuff in and it would format it correctly. I never used it but I do know one existed but that was back in 2004 or 2005 so not sure if it is still around. If I find it I will post it for you.

Just search out "apa template" or "mla template" and you might find something that will help. If not find a nice English teacher and she will point you in the right direction, they love helping with this stuff, LOL

Is your instructor requiring you to turn in a typed speech in MLA or APA? Or does he just want a well layed out speech that makes sense and goes in some type of constructive order?

Generally if an instructor expects an MLA or APA paper they will specify which they want and heaven forbid you do the wrong one. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time for this and make sure if you use online research that you document the research sites properly. Also an outline helps tremendously and will save you a lot of time in the long run. Believe me, your first draft will not be the one you turn in

Hi monster, the above information you posted is great. I did find a few out dated issues with the APA references. For instance, I copied the following as an example.

One author suggests that college students with AD(H)D use the last 15 minutes of each study period to review their progress on their various projects and to plan what they will need to do the next day (Latham, 2000).

Since this is not in quotes, it says to me that it is a paraphase. A paraphase is ended differently than if it is in quotes. For instance, it should read like this:

One author suggests that college students with AD(H)D use the last 15 minutes of each study period to review their progress on their various projects and to plan what they will need to do the next day. (Latham, 2000, p. ?)

All I did was move the period to the end of the sentence versus the end of the sentence and quote. Then I added page. There must always be a page number for both the paraphase and the quote. This is just a few of the problems I saw with the referenced material that was offered. However, most of it was very correct. They even referenced web site references correctly which most make a lot of mistakes with since it is so new. Red
