RE: Lyrica users
My wife has fibromyalgia also but has not tried the Lyrica yet but has talked about doing so for a short time to get her through a flare up. She has been in a moderate flare up since Christmas but over the past weekend it got really bad. I woke up Sunday morning to her crying because of the pain she was having. All I could do was hold her and cry with her. I think she feels like she has to keep going and tries to go to work anyway. She stayed home Monday and spent most of the day in bed like she did over the weekend. I really feel helpless right now since I can't do anything to ease her pain. I really think she would stay home more and take care of herself better if I could work.

chrischris Wrote:Jayne, I have one black toe nail (my big toe) and can't imagine how it got that way. It's been like that for about 3 months. Doesn't grow out, doesn't hurt, and it's just under the toe nail. Doctor said I probably bruised it and just forgot how it happened. How did you find out it was related to the Lyrica?I swelled up like a pregnant toad within hours of taking it could feel it mostly in my hands and feet...you know the preggers swelling in hands and feet? called the Doc and he said it was a side effect of the drug...stopped taking it and the swelling went down took a long time for the nails to grow out tho ;)Workmans comp is not a road you want to travel alone. You need a good lawyer,a great family and good friends to lean on.If you make it thru without losing everything you have worked for all your life, you have come out ahead of the game.....

RE: Lyrica users
Lyrica, like any other Medication, is a hit or miss, better said trail and error. One will never know the results, till it is taken or tried out. I have never had it, but surely is worth a try when your in pain. Just watch for the side affect signs.

RE: Lyrica users
CD>>>I feel for both of you. There are times I put myself to bed for a couple of days. That's all I can do. I have times that I have to sleep straight through 16 hours to feel better, and I do then. I guess they are flare ups. It's hard to tell when you have other injuries. I remember my husband feeling bad after he was injured that I would hurt sometimes and have to go to work. I used to tell him all the time that I felt he would do the same for me. Take care of each other. I am truly hoping this works. My Rheumi told me a long time ago that people with fibro have no luck with pain meds and he was right. Narcotics do nothing for us so hopefully the Lyrica will. Jayne>>>any drug that affects me like that I stop on a dime. Dr. or no Dr. BB>>> I have to agree. I nver thought I could take Cymbalta with no side effects but I did. I felt months later that it didn't help the pain at all and I started to relax what I thought was too much. Now I sit back and know that relaxing is different to me but a good thing. I will give the Lyrica a shot, hope for the best and be very aware of how I feel. I don't like taking anything so I'm sure I'll be aware of changes especially ones I don't like. SInce I have HBP(controlled) I was told once that meds that cause fluid retention will put about 5# on the scale within 3 days. That being too much the med needs to be stopped, so I'm not innocent to the problems and dangers of meds. Please wish me luck. I have taken so much crap for 3-4 days and had to stop I can't even tell you. Luckily my PM Dr. was willing to call this in so at least I won't pay an arem and a leg in co-pays and then have to throw it out. I have two botles of 30 mg of Cymbalta sitting here that I'm sure someone who can't afford it can use. CAP God is never late. In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years. |

RE: Lyrica users
Has the I/C tried blaming the fibro to get out of paying anything?

RE: Lyrica users
Cap - All I do is sleep and after 3 days become a b***h from hell, so when my pain gets real bad I will take it for either one or two days and just sleep. Maybe if I had of continued taking it those things would have gone away but I couldn't even live with my self so I really couldn't expect those around me to deal with it. People have said they also think I have Fibro but it has not been diagnosed. Of the two docs I have asked about it one has said that there is NO such thing and another said that is what is diagnosed when they cannot figure out what is wrong. I don't agree with either of those statements and it's no wonder that we all feel crazy at times. Good luck with the Lyrica and at least give it a try, maybe keep a journal and write how you are feeling down so you can keep track of what's going on with your pain levels, amt of sleep and any changes personality wise. That way you have a 'record' you can take to doc just in case it does not go well he will at least know you tried.

RE: Lyrica users
Cap, I agree that you should at least give it a try.
I talked to my doc about the weight gain, so he put me on Wellbutrin AD which works as an appetite suppressant. I call it the "happy pill". It's also used to stop smoking.

RE: Lyrica users
CD>>>I was dx right before being injured, treated, felt good and haven't seeen the rheumatologist since. PCP thinks the strain and stress of the injuries and being poked and prodded for 2 years in PT and having 3 surgeries so close has brought on a flare up. So no, the IC has nothing to do with this. I have lots of nerve damage that's documented in my neck hence the PM Dr. being able to prescribe the Lyrica. Monster ... I also don't agree that it's a nothing dx. I had 15 of the 18 sore trigger points when dx. I was working FT and actually saw the rheumi for nodules growing on my knuckles. Fingers and toes. He started a process of eliminating RA , lupus and scleradoma( I know I spelled that wrong) Finally after putting all of my symptoms together including not so obvious ones like being med sensitive adn telling him that I don't take pain killers because none of them work he made his dx. Pain killers having no affect believe it or not is one of the prime symptoms of fibro. CC<<<< I am going to try. I have read good and bad. I am aware of the possible appetite changes and will be cautious. IF I start to gain and I am eating no more then I'll know it's fluid and will have to stop it because of my BP> I took wellbutrin years ago and had horrible side effects so I kind of on my own. I'm hopin and praying that it helps. I changed chiro's today and will be having therapeutic massages along with the adjustments 3 xs a week but really believe the only thing that has helped in the past 2 years was aquatic therapy. That is also typical of Fibro patients. Cannot wait for my case to be settled and to be able to plan my own life again. Best to all, CAP God is never late. In the end it doesn't matter how many years were in your life but how much life was in your years. |

RE: Lyrica users
I spoke to a RN and physical therapist about neurotin vs Lyrica and this is what they told me.
Lyrica - This is a newer drug and the long term side effects are not known. This drug works better for more patients vs neurotin. Neurotin - This is an older drug and the long term side effects are known. More patients see more relief with Lyrica vs neurotin. |
