The uniform that the man is wearing in the picture Wink posted is very similar to the gear that is worn or we use to keep for our mobility packages. As a nurse, mine was much lighter, but I still had the combat boots and what we called greens, however, if you look close at this picture, I believe the soldier is carrying a wounded soldier which makes his load look much heavier than in real life. But this is what they do, carrying their wounded friends to safety... especially the corpsman. the Navy corpsman loved to be assigned to the marines and they were called our 8404's... this meant that they followed the marine plattoons into battle and were the ones to assist the wounded out of the combat zone to a medical field center. Thank you... brings back a lot of memories...love Red I didn't see that at First Red....I can't believe I missed that...it at first appeared to be gear....brings more meaning to"he ain't heavy he's my brother" no where to hide |
